Pedestrian Crosswalk needed on Thompson near Metro Plaza

I’ve previously mentioned this as a sub-note in this post but the topicĀ  warrants more detail.

Lack of a signaled crosswalk has been a common concern I’ve heard when canvassing residents in the area. There is not a safe way to cross Thompson to get either to the Metro Plaza on one side or the Park on the other.

Local resident Graham Wilson started this thread on the topic last week and he recently emailed the Town (and CCed myself) on this topic (See below quote). If you live in the area, and would like to get involved in this discussion please let me know. You can also read Mike Cluett’s post about this here.

Hello,

I am writing to express my frustration with the lack of progress in having a crosswalk or a pedestrian controlled light on South Thompson Rd. In my opinion, it is unacceptable to have a large shopping plaza providing a local bank, groceries, restaurants, drug store on one side of a 5-lane road with a neighborhood and sports fields on the other but not connect the two sides with a safe pedestrian crossing (see links below).

For perspective, I moved into the Mattamy development on the west side of Thompson in Sept. 2007 and have made annual requests to the city each spring. Prior attempts, by phone, have been unsuccessful so I have begun writing to the city for clarification. Below is the current series of e-mails exchanged between myself and the Milton city engineering department.

I consider this to be a serious issue of pedestrian safety resulting from poor municipal planning. I would very much like to see a city councillor step up and champion the cause of Milton’s pedestrians.

Regards,
Graham Wilson

They city will wait for a serious accident or fatality before responding. We live in a “reactive” not a “pro-active” society.
