"Houston, we have a problem".

The province has officially backed away from two way all day train service to Milton and Georgetown. If you look at earlier posts on this thread, I stated it is crucial that we have that support from the province, our partner in growth. The goal of the BIG MOVE from Metrolinx is to maintain transportation service levels of 2008. Without the province giving the 150,000 people moving to Milton options such as trains all day to get to work and back, our regional roads will become even more gridlocked. For anyone who has been here as long as me (10 years), we are talking current Derry Road reverting to the brutal situation it was 10 years ago. Unacceptable.

Today Halton Region's Planning & Public Works Committee said no thanks to the province asking us to grow, without transportation commitments to just maintain current transportation levels on our roads (which are less than 2008). Now it goes to full Regional Council next week for ratification. The report can be seen here that prompted the Regional Councillors to put a brake on future growth unless the province changes their stance regarding Milton http://sirepub.halton.ca/pubmtgframe.as ... ype=AGENDA

As I mentioned, next week this report and it's recommendation from Planning and Public Works comes before all of the Regional Councillors. I can tell you ahead of time, I am voting to put a stop to growth next Wednesday unless the province provides us what we need: -1- A GO station at Trafaglar and Derry -2- All day two way train service.

If the province will not help us, I am not going to sit back and allow growth to inconvenience my constituents. Shut it down.

Best Regards,
Tony

Hi Everyone,

Good afternoon. It's official. This morning Halton Regional Council unanimously ratified staff's recommendation that Halton will not be able to approve any more new house developments unless the province keeps their promise to Halton residents regarding transportation infrastructure support. Have a great day.

Best Regards,
Tony

That should be good(?) for our property values at least.
Same demand, less inventory.

Councillors,
If it was unanimous, then it must be the right thing. I'll buy that. I'm sure it is just short term tomfoolery anyway.
On a side note, what role does the Province play in our access to the Federal $70 Billion? Could they hold this over Halton's head until we cave, or even worse, demand even more concessions from Halton until we crumble?

Tony left out that this decision by regional council applied to development in the post 2021 growth areas east of James Snow, and south of Britannia that are part of ROPA38.
Current development within the Milton boundaries of James Snow to Tremaine, and Britannia to the 401 Industrial Park is not included in that.

He may have left it out as regards the Regional resolution but as he said earlier in this thread he plans to vate against all future development including the 2 projects at Main/JSP both Regionally and at Town Council until he gets an announcement from the Province that all day GO and the Milton East GO station are promised as per original schedule!

Hi Martin,

Good afternoon, I hope you are well. Yes, I will be voting against any more development as a Milton Councillor on Milton Council, to prevent more congestion on our regional roads until the province keeps their promise to be our partners in growth by providing options to Miltonians for an all day two way train service, and a Milton West GO station at Trafalgar and Derry. The west Milton GO station is very important because it will alleviate parking at the Milton GO station because a high percentage of commuters at the Milton GO station, drive there and park from Georgetown Cambridge and Kitchener. If we have a GO station at Trafalgar & Derry, it will significantly improve the Milton GO station parking. As well , many future Miltonians who will be living south of Louis St. Laurent and west of James Snow Parkway will need the west Milton GO station (Trafalgar & Derry).

As for "walking the walk", I will "walk" mine. Just watch for my request for a recorded vote next Wednesday. Yes, our town - our way. (Don't try taking advantage of my constituents while I'm on Milton & Halton Council - Any government, Any Company......it's not worth it...you're gonna lose).

Best Regards,
Tony

I have watched the Regional meeting a few times now and need clarification from Councillor Lambert on something - are you for or against new business in Milton? That's an honest question. Some of your posts have me believing one thing, and then you say or post something completely in the face of your previous comments. Or are you against growth? And ya, ya, ya, Province mandated yadda yadda. What does Tony Lambert stand for? That's my question. Acceptable responses CANNOT contain the following:

- the Province has to keep its promise;
- if we get xxx, then we give xxx;
- I'll ask staff and get back to you; and
- any combination of hizzle, shizzle, or dizzle.

I hope the rest of council is a bit more sensible otherwise that could rack up a lot of legal fees to be lost to OMB appeals! Tony, would that include Derry Green business park too?

In case you were wondering you can watch the entire regional council meeting online at http://www.halton.ca/cms/One.aspx?porta ... eId=100282 but its almost 2 hours long as for the first part of the meeting they were discussing the importance of affordable housing in Halton.

If you wanted to skip that and get to much anticipated comments, Ive condensed it here. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kN55TqYVkFM

While it doesn't change anything on the Milton line, the Lakeshore line is soon getting every half hour service, up from every half hour. I think this will really boost ridership among non-daily users, such as myself who would like to take it into downtown occasionally, but potentially having to wait an hour just isn't acceptable, and so I usually drive. A half hour I can justify though and will definitely consider using it for jays games this summer.

That's awesome. Don't even need to check the schedule and try to time it anymore! Just show up and "Go"!

That IS great news. I just had to mad dash it just now to grab the 1:43 back to Oakville because sitting in that shithole that is Union station for an hour suck balls.

They can stop developing as soon as they build a Liquor/beer store @ Britannia/25
