Other than multitasking and a really sexy screen resolution is there anything major from a functionality stand point with the 4g over the 3g.

From the horse's mouth so to speak:

Pretty much sums it up.

Definitely dont want the 3g then , it doesnt appear to have a processor :D

Thanks though, overall a resonable breakdown

Telus is selling iPhone 3GS (16 GB) versions for $99 and $149 for 32GB starting today.

I am sure Rogers will follow suit, shortly :)

Has anyone been able to get out of the data contract from Rogers by paying $100 cancellation fee. Some RFD'ers have gotten the iphone with voice & data and then second month they cancel the data by paying $100...any truth to that...

I have iPhone without data plan from day one :) Never paid a single cent for it. This morning I called Rogers Retentions and they offered me pretty lucrative deal ... but I am waiting for iPhone 4 to come out before I can get locked into another contract ...

Basically the deal was:
300 DT mins + MY5 canada wide
Unlimited weekends and evenings starting @ 6pm
500 MB data plan
100 LD mins / month
2500 txt sent + unlimited receiving
unlimited incoming mins
caller id + voicemail

all for $52.58 + tax

Remember, news has it that Apple will sell the new iPhone directly, commitment free, meaning that you don't have to renew with your carrier. It will be 100% unlocked.

When I got iPhone ... I specifically told them that I don't want a data plan. They said then they'll give me a refreshed phone instead of a brand new one. I agreed, and that's how I opt out of data plan!

Thanks, nice to know! My calls to Rogers retentions will commence shortly but I still have 6 months to go for my contract to be over and I know then I have REAL bargaining power... :)

I think contract and HUP runs seperately. When was the last time you upgraded your hardware? If more than 24 months, you have power to negotiate now :)

Thanks for the Karma.

If your near your end, retention can really work wonders. To make you well prepare, this is what I have as far as my plan. I use alot for Business but in my opionion, it will give you an idea on how willing they are to keep your business. I got this before Wind, Dave Wireless was on board.

1400 DT Minutes
Untd Eve and Wkds after 6pm
iPhone Data Pack (inc. 500MB and Visual Call Waiting)
Unlimited Long Distance in Canada
Unlimited Rogers to Rogers Nationwide
Unlimited incoming Local calls
No System Access Fee

$93.70 plus taxes

Right now I have;

300 daytime minutes
After 6 & weekends
100 LD minutes
Rogers to Rogers
2500 text
VM, CID

$24 tax included

But would like to get an iphone (even 3G for free) and maybe add all incoming free. HUP "should" be ok but I find for changing the plan its best to be under no obligation but will start calling couple of times a week to see where I get :) (RFD approach)

Remember one thing. Most times, even if they give you an iPhone for free, they would not let you go without a data plan. You would have to change to a similar plan or better that adapts to the phone. With their iPhone, the data is where they get their money back and more.

Also, any type of retention plan they offer you, will require a new commitment with them. That's the catch.

Updated the OS on my 3gs last night to 4. Still struggling to figure out how to drag n drop apps in folders. So far not able to use multi-tasking as well. I guess have to play with it longer.
