Great pics. I'll definitely be doing some research!
Thanks for all the links. I really appreciate the recommendations, I'm still quite a newbie to the world of photography!

Back to Milton.
I didn’t know Mohawk Racing Tracks are kids friendly.
Admission is free and it doesn’t really cost much to place a bit.

They going to have big racing event on September 18th.

Nice colors and workout to get this picture. I think, I know this spot from skiing in winter.

Thoughts on the Canon G10?

I only ask because someone happens to be selling one in the advertisements section for $300 + flash for $125

Worth it? Or keep saving for a better one?

Appleby north of Derry is one sweet road in the winter.

Here are a couple from Rattlesnake too. I should bring a real camera sometime instead of my BB.

I don’t like this one.

The size of the viewfinder is the same as in the G9, but the markings have been removed. It is still nowhere near 100% (77%), which combined with the tunnel effect makes this almost unusable (for taking pictures). What's worse is that every time you place your eye to the viewfinder, you smudge the LCD more. Is this better than no optical viewfinder at all? At least it is still possible to make believe this is a rangefinder.

If camera has unusable viewfinder it makes it just another point-and-shot.
You should really try it first, because the rest of the camera looks promising.
But you could find DSLR for little bit more.

Flash, it depends. For 125CAD you could get new flash shipped from China. I went this way and no regrets.

Argh, you did not take my advice on that website I recommended.

This is not the camera you are looking for. I'd seriously consider looking for a used D40. You can even borrow mine for a bit and see if you like it or not.

Ken's a knob and too high on himself...

I wouldn't touch a D40 with a 10 ft pole - not if I had a choice.

Nothing wrong with the camera, but Nikon in their infinite wisdom, made a series of camera's without the autofocus "screw" built in to them. What does that mean? It means you have to buy AF-S lenses to autofocus. D40/D40x/D60 were all like this. D50/D70 (older units) D80 and D90 have the screw, so it drastically opens up the lenses you can use as well as cost. The AF-S lenses can cost several hundred more them the AF ones. Just one lens purchase can make up the difference in the cost between a D40 and D80.

D40 is smaller and lighter - this is what I found to be the most important thing about having a camera TO ME. I simply will not carry it around if it is heavy and cumbersome.

But why would someone ever buy a D80 now when every aspect of it has been made obsolete by the D90? No wonder you don't like Ken Rockwell, as he explains why you've been screwed (and him as well) by your purchase of the D80.

Uhh no - He's full of himself - go check any camera forums and you'll find the same opinion of him.

The D80's SLIGHTLY heavier and larger - Given the added features, it's worth it.

You'd buy a D80 if you didn't have the money for a D90.

I bought mine 3 years ago. D90 didn't exist then.

I know nothing about nothing, so "D90, D80, Megapixels and ISO's" gibberish means nothing to me. (Granted, I do need to research a little more as I am very ignorant on the subject of photography)

I just want a decent user friendly camera (I have a Sony Cybershot so I don't want another little digi) that I don't have to take a class to learn how to figure out. I want to be able to take pictures of anything (landscape, portraits, motion) and have them turn out well.
I'd like to think that I have an artistic eye (as do most amateur photogs I'm sure) and I just want to be able to capture a picture with professional quality.

I guess everyone has their opinions on which cameras work better...I'm just trying to see what seems to be most popular for newbies with a budget.

Every photographer will tell you that it's not the gear that turns out a good picture, it's the person behind the gear. There are some photographers who have made a point of using point and shoots, etc to show that they are capable of the same quality shots.

If you are going to get into SLR - I strongly recommend reading or taking the introduction course at Sheridan, (tax deductable and everything). If you don't understand the manual controls and what they mean on an SLR and simply use auto, you are not better off then your point and shoot.

Also - the body plays a role, but the more major role is good glass. Better lenses will capture pictures with less required light, etc. There's alot to be learned.

Either way, I'd recommend the D90. Excellet low light ISO capabilities (meaning taking shots in darker conditions without the use of a flash, great for more natural shots) and has lots of manual controllability.

Of course - it's got the auto mode as well...

Good points. Also, if you know how to process your images properly, that can be a huge plus. With digital images, photoshop is now your darkroom - so as long as you have properly exposed and focused images, you can do quite a lot of manipulation.

Photo classes are great too I had taken one in college, but I found I learned the most years back when I joined a photo group for a year or so and hung out with some experienced photographers. They would show me things about my images that I never noticed before, or would never have noticed if an experienced eye hadn't pointed out.
