I agree that purchasing clothes or other common used items brand name is a waste.

When a friend has a new baby though, I always go to Ten Tiny Fingers to load up on unique items so my shower gift isn`t the same old crap you see at Babies R Us.

Our son is 8 months now and I can honestly say I`ve purchased a total of 3 sleepers for him only because I couldn`t NOT have them.
Everything we have for him (crib set, exersaucer, monitor, air steamer, bottles, every single clothes item, toys, etc..) was bought either second hand or given as a gift.

I had two baby showers where all the really nice outfits came from as well as major items I registered for. I got a sweet crib set used online for $250 with a dresser included.

Now I have to sort through two hockey bags worth of boy clothes handed down from the SIL... a blessing and a curse! Even the hand me downs are great though, most of which have either tags on or just slightly warn. Thank God for big families and friends who are generous enough to pay it forward, I know I will when we`re done being baby factories!

We went all out... got everything top of the line, spent a lot of money... LOL, he grew out of stuff so fast or doesnt actually use it yet (ie. crib to twin bed... hes out of the crib, but the twin is too big. We had to buy another "in-between" bed for him  ) I already feel bad for the second kid... that kids getting screwed

and we got the bugaboo too... its in the basement collecting dust now! IMO, the buggaboo was the biggest waste... sorry to say. We have since purchased two other strollers (Chariot and Maclaren).

but what the heck... ya make money to spend money 8)

Yes, it brings tears to my eyes seeing him beat expensive furniture with a toy. Even the crappy walmart crib. I could not imagine what it would feel like to have my son beat a $1000 plus crib!!! (they don't know any better at that young age)

Also clothing is a big waste. I have a few outfits at a cost that could cloth a family. Now at 2.5, I just get him the cheapest walmart clothing.

Bonnie Togs for boys clothes is amazing!! Catch the off-season sales and you can get great quality clothing for really, really cheap. You can get nice shorts, pants, shirts for $2-$5/piece or less. It's got to be my favourite place to shop for my son. With my daughter our neighbours and friends were extremely generous with hand-me-downs and she's got about 2 years worth of clothes from those. We were tremendously grateful and will pay it forward as well. Kijiji is great for pricey items like snowsuits! I got my son's Oshkosk snowsuit for this year for $25.00 in great condition. I hit the motherlode because the woman selling the snowsuit also had a bunch of size 5/6 shirts and pants in fabulous condition. I got the snowsuit, about a dozen shirts and half-dozen pants, and a fall-jacket that was worn twice for $80.00. It made the drive to Richmond Hill worth it - though I normally don't drive further than Oakville, Burlington, or west Mississauga. I LOVE Kijiji!!

And Snugglebugz isn't a chain (well, now it is  ) but it was started by a couple in Burlington in 2006 much the same way as Ten Tiny Fingers started this year here to fill a demand. Before Snugglebugz your only choice for many of the items they carry was Safety Superstore (terrible customer service).
