Here we go again. Why would you take one example to bash lawyers and name-call.
Yes it's right and here's why. The firm withheld any notice/severance, my vacation pay and did not pay out sales commission earned (something about "had to be in the employ of at the time of payment"). Really chintzy outfit.
There are also other guidelines which enter in to the equation, like an Ontario Company which supports a $2.5M/annum payroll, must pay an additional week/year, etc, etc.
Nonetheless, Brent took them to task and with one letter, I received the equivalent of 5 weeks payment. So yes, it's right and I earned every penny.
Understand, an employer will try, it if they think they can get away with it, offering the bare minimum payout. Remember, it's only their first offer, not their final. Some people are OK with that. Others will pursue their employer with the help of a knowledgeable employment lawyer.
