hey do you find you can burn more calories on the eliptical than the treadmill? not that the calories thing is that accurate, but I find when I walk at an incline for an hour on a treadmill and only see 300 cals burned it does annoy me! (I dont like to run, I have 'ahem' large body parts that make that uncomfortable ). I was told i will burn about double on the eliptical. Im sure it will be way more tiring though and I will only last 10 minutes!

Part of the problem with these machines is that they are pre-set and do not take into account weight, height, etc which can alter calories burned per person. If my wife and I go on either for 10 min at the same speed, it'll say we burned the same amount (which isn't right because she's like 60 lbs lighter than I am). I burn more calories on the elliptical than the treadmill but I wonder about that myself. I sweat a lot more on the treadmill and find it a more exhausting workout. I think part of the reasoning for burning more on the elliptical is you're apparently using more of your body. I'm no science expert so maybe others on here can chime in on this. Good question you have but not sure I answered it :)

We bought a treadmill from Canadian Tire over Christmas, reg $2100 on sale for $599. I was skeptical, however it's great! I use it 3-4 times a week and love it. Agreed it's not the same as an outdoor run,but in my mind, nothing compares to a good card workout!

My hubby and I also did P90x to get in shape for our wedding last year,if you're going to buy any work out videos this set is the best. I like to supplement a run with Kempo, Cardio x or Plyometrics.

Good luck with your decision!

I think I may have bought the same one with the same deal at the same place a few years ago :). No complaints, it is a solid treadmill.

Before you spend hundreds on a treadmill try one first. Every gym always has a free visit promo and at least it gives you an idea.

Most gym equipment ends up being an expensive coatrack as people don't use them.

If you sure you will use grab a used one for like half cost of new.

Go onto Kijiji or Craigslist or your local paper. I think exercise equipment has to be the #1 most purchased, never used, and then put up for sale at a drastic loss type of items and as such you should find a very good deal.

Get yourself a treadmill, beat the person down on price (they will be happy just getting someone to come and take it out of their house) and try it out. If you stick to it after a year or so, put it up for sale and buy yourself a nice feature rich unit brand new.

I'm planning to do the same thing to buy a Bowflex. Retail they are 70% more expensive than in the used market - several "still in the box" :)

Us too, the only complaint I have with mine is you can't change the user settings so the calories etc are not accurate as it's based on a 150lb person of which I am not. However, I've found some great iphone apps out there that I use with my treadmill for heartrate, calories etc so it's not a huge deal.

If you get a good treadmill you enter your user settings, if you get a really good one it will keep your user settings so you can get accurate calorie readings. Mine does- I almost bought a Precor but for $5000 it didn't have user settings!! Forget that- it's useless to me as I workout by calories burned. I went back to my tried and true PaceMaster.
