Raps have really no choice but to try and resign him. No team is going to really give us anything good in return for a 3 month rental player, plus the teams that would want his services now will have crappy draft picks to trade, so we're kind of stuck.
I am terrified of resigning him to a big money contract. Does he have the tools to be an elite PG? Absolutely, we're seeing it now. But is it sustainable once he loses the incentive of impending free agency? Who knows, maybe this is the Lowry we will see for the rest of his career, but I have doubts. Teams don't just trade away talents like this (and its happened to him twice).
Yeah, you've verbalised my thoughts exactly, and even though I can tell Ujiri is a smart guy, I think he has no choice but to re-sign him too. I just wondered if there was another reasonable perspective, but I don't think there is. Problem is, the guy might not agree to a 2-3 year deal if the Raps aren't sure about his drive and only want to test the waters without committing long-term. And I've read that he's had issues with Duane Casey, and since winning can sweep a lot of issues under a rug, maybe teams having traded him were because of his attitude, though people can mature with age. It'll be interesting to see what happens, but if we keep up the pace, we will even get home-court advantage for the playoffs, lol. I've noted the biggest differences this season vs. past losing seasons are better defense combined with greater 3-pt percentage, Amir Johnson nailing jump shots (lol), and JV able to score more under the rim.
BTW, still in love with your Optima? I had a chance to drive an SX Turbo for a week, and it is very nice inside and the car is gorgeous. No torque steer too, which is a sign of good drivetrain engineering. I just found little things odd like the power window switches being too far back on the door panel, bad placement of the front cup holders where if you have a bottle of water, it will get in the way of you reaching the shifter, hard to check blind spot for lane change, and a hollow cheapness feel when you pull the outside door latch to open the door.
