Because you can get the same stuff at Costco that you can get anywhere else, but lots more of it. I never really thought I needed 500ft of aluminium foil or 3,000 dishwasher pucks, but if they are selling it, I must need it.

It's not quite that drastic - but yes, it's more. It works out to cost less overall.

Yea, they would sell more, but if you've ever been in there on a weekend, it doesn't look like they are hurting!

The return policy cannot be beat.
...Return a year old watch that you don't want anymore.. done.
...Return clothes that shrunk after you washed it... sure.
...Need a camera for a Vacation but don't need it after you come back... it has happened

That sounds like a pretty bad policy, on balance it has got to cost them (read: "cost their members"). Call it a "perk" for one member, at the expense of all other members? Fishy.

The wife shops in there with friends occasionally. If anyone wants some minced garlic or Pesto sauce, we have 3-litre tubs of each in the fridge (being purged shortly) Just stupid, drives me nuts.

Return policy rules
90 day return policy on any cell phone ~ who offers this ~ No one but Costco
We purchased a 60" TV. We had problems with it, after 3 weeks
We called Costco ~ No problem ~ No questions nothing
They asked if we wanted a brand new TV or if we wanted a repair guy to come out and fix the one we had

I used to work in a box furniture store.
There is no way you will get a New TV from anyone of them
Other places will only fix your brand new TV

Plus, no receipt required. They have you on file. No need to try to find or file useless receipts

they used to have a REALLY lax TV return policy.

they changed it now, but it's still VERY good.

Buy a TV - you have 90 days to return it.

AUTOMATIC 2 year warranty upgrade is included with any TV purchase. You can upgrade to 5 year warranty, in home service for $99!

They deduct renewal fees from your cheque...
The low cheque offer was as near as I remember for new enrollees to prove value of membership

Had to change it, some people abused hell out of it (same reason Walmart tightened up)

They have actually billed you a renewal fee?
(I never had that issue with low cheques but still have never paid a renew fee ever)

Pay renewal fees every year. My "rebate" cheque is just a coupon that has a monetary value. Once made the mistake of depositing through an ATM. Bank called and they are still laughing about it. You can only use the "coupon" as part payment on a future purchase.

For us it just about breaks even with the extra costs, but I feel deeply privileged when I can flaunt my executive black card to all the regulars with their normal cards.
