Where on Yates did this happen??

I moved off of Yates because of the level of danger on that street.

The same house was nailed again by the car. More damage to the car this time but not two months after the homeowners fixed it, its damaged again.

Un believable.

What kind of LOSER manages to speed to the point that they crash into a house? Let's see...it's not winter so snow isn't an excuse...was it raining out? If not, then there is no possible excuse for doing something so stupid. I'm sure this person will get a slap on the wrist and do it again somewhere else. Wish there was something more that could be done to prevent this.

i don't live on yates.. but fully support a 4 way stop at yates & march crossing. everytime i drive down yates at what i think is a reasonable speed, someone rides up to my back bumper like i'm holding him up from a bloody emergancy

and i don't drive like a granny everywhere (just ask my hubby  ), but i am very carefull on residental streets... it's about the safety of our kids!

As sad as it is, its an accident that can be totally preventable even without the stop sign there. Its called common sense.

Some people have it, and some dont. As for getting up to speed in that short a distance, you would be surprised. Ive sat out on the porch many times and seen the folks turning into the Barclay Circle area at excessive speeds where they almost jump the curb. Ive also watched as some drivers boot up Yates and turn right onto Bennet (sometimes obeying the stop sign there) and find them coming down Irving Terrace.

Its sad that we have to resort to more stop signs as a potential solution to the problem. It shouldnt have to be this way.

Mike, if someone or a group of people asked the police to come to this specific location at least once a week and stay there for just a few hours, do you think they'd do this? Otherwise I say a bunch of people sit out in that area and as soon as you see a moron doing something stupid, everyone fill out one of those community watch forms for the police and hand them all in at once. Maybe they'd do something then?

You and me both.

A far worse accident is simply a matter of time.

There was yet again another accident on Yates. That is the second time in four months that a car was speeding down Yates and drove right into a house. I don’t remember the councilor who lives on Yates but he needs to push for a four way stop on Yates before someone gets hurt.

How are you going to put a roundabout at a small interestion like that? I'd of thought roundabouts are for bigger intersections.

Theres really only 3 options that are available to solve this problem or at least HINDER those people who like to use Yates and any other road as a Nascar Speedway.

First option is a 4 way stop.
Second option is reduce speed and or 4 way stop.
Third option is speed bumps.

Ive asked the engineering department to send me what information they have on any recent studies in the area and a petition should be going out this week (look for us at your door ;) ) to present to the town what we think those options should be.

Clearly something should be done and as residents we should have a clear message to bring.

Thanks Mike, hope to see you as I'm on Bennett Blvd. My first choice is 4 way stop, then speedbumps then reduce speed (only because I know reducing speed will do nothing).

It's a government operation, what do you expect? Like I said before, just wait till they close Derry! :D

I agree, it took them more than 1 day to put up all the posts they did like 3 one day then more than a week later the rest. Someone had said 2nd week of Nov for them to be working since that came and went and it is going on the last week of Nov I don't think they will be working anytime soon. My bet is sometime in Jan.

So, exactly WHEN are these lights going to be operational? The initial completion date has passed several weeks ago, the lights are up but don't seem to be completed for all 4 directions and there's no evidence of any work being done.

I mean really, how hard is it to install traffic lights? Is it just me, or does everything in this town take ages to happen? The amount of stupidity I see in Milton relating to the roads, traffic lights, and general construction makes me miss Mississauga sometimes......

The delay was due to the road surface paving on Yates, the top coat of asphalt had to be put down before the traffic lights could continue. If you know about how traffic lights work then you'd realize that the sensors must be laid into the ground. It did not make sense doing that twice. If they didn't put the sensors in, these tell the lights when there is a car there, your wait would be a lot longer than the five minutes somebody waited on Friday.

The sensors are now in, and its just a matter of time to lay the paint (stop lines, and crossing lines) and you need dry days to do that. The snow, rain and ice would make it impossible right now and when you want it done right and safely these are the times when patience is a virtue, even though its a pain in the ***.

Maybe people should also consider that they moved to a small town and NOT a city ie.Mississauga. Our resources are maxed out and everything is being done about this. Just relax and stop the hustle and bustle. If 5 minutes is too long for you there are lights at Holly and Derry, maybe this would be safer too because people are in such a rush!!
