Hello Again,
I have yet another question. We are mattress shopping now, and I have been told to get a firm mattress to prevent SIDS (Sudden Infant deatlh syndrome). How many coils would you all recommend for a baby mattress?

Hi Reena,
This would be new information to me. I have four children and one of them is 8 weeks old. You hear many different things. First your not to put your baby on their back to have them sleep on their side. Then it changes and they are recommending that you have your baby sleep on their back. As for the stomach that is a definite no no.
They have so many conclusions when it comes to what actually causes SIDS and I find that it is always changing. So which ones is actually rite. I don't think anyone really knows.
I remember reading somewhere a long while back that SIDS is when the baby forgets to breath. I know this may sound ridiculous but when baby is in the womb he/she practices breathing so that they are ready for when they are born. So couldn't it be possible that this could be why this happens??
In my opinion I really don't think the mattress will matter. I mean it won't be that soft that your baby will sink in it. I always placed my children on their sides with something in front and back to prevent them from turning back or forward and also to prevent them from choking on milk if they were to spit up.
I would recommend something that your baby will be comfortable in. I don't think there is any real way to prevent SIDS from happening.
