No, fourth line is not "supposed" to be a major road!

My understanding is that Fourth line is not supposed to be a major road between Derry and LSL but below LSL it is slated to be a busier road.

School busses picking up kids in residential areas should be stopping at designated locations - not individual homes when picking up the kids unless they are handicapped (pick up in white bus) or attending different school for program reasons (could be picked up in taxi, van, small or large bus). In those cases, they would likely not be picking up at more than one stop in a neighborhood.

Rural kids (some on fourth line may qualify - South of LSL) could get picked up at their homes because there is no safe walking route to a designated stop ie: no sidewalks.

On busy roads where kids have to gather at one stop and may be coming from opposite sides of the road, the kids should gather on both sides of the road and the kids crossing would use the bus' flashing lights to aid their crossing - making it a controlled intersection. That is why you should not pass a bus with lights flashing.

If you think a bus is making too many stops in a residential area and picking up kids at their individual homes, call the school boards and check on the stops that should be happening in that area.

The stop in the 4th line area that aggravates me is the one on Clarke just West of 4th line. It picks up for the Catholic high school and has a lot of kids that get on. The problem is that most of them are late in getting to the stop, the parents drive their kids to the stop and let them out all over the road and you have to wait 5-8 minutes for them all to finish running for the bus because they are all late.

MJD03 & big_mac ..... you guys are totally acting like a bunch of a-holes ..... how would you feel if it was YOUR kid loading on the bus and some car had NO patience and tore off .... oh .... wait a minute .... you must not have any kids because you would UNDERSTAND what csmann3 is trying to say.

I too live very near 4th line and I lose count how many times I have seen cars go FLYING down there - day and night ..... you want to FLY down a road - go over to James Snow - NOT 4th line.

There are usually cars parked on the side of the road on 4th - and I get pissed a lot because of this - but then I stop and remember that this actually SLOWS people down - well MOST people.

Another thing ..... would you be saying the same things about 'stalking' and writing down plate #'s if you happened to see 2 kids bouncing around in the back seat of a car with no seat belts on ?? Or witnessed a guy weaving all over the road ?? Oh - or how about that guy who just took of swig out of that Crown Royal bottle ?? This is all the same s**t in my book ......

Ease up a little ......

Jo, my original comment that was directed towards MJD03 was obviously a joke. I can't imagine how it was interpreted otherwise. (MJD03 clearly saw it.) If I am acting like an a-hole as you claim, and I say 'if' because I don't think I am, that only started after I was threatened by csmann3 with his/her personal style of hilariously time consuming vigilante justice.

And FYI, I do understand what csmann3 is saying. I rarely if ever hit 50 km/hr in my neighbourhood, and I don't pass busses. What I do do is make jokes on occasion, but some people don't seem to be able to deal with that. For this I make no apology.

Ease up a little...

I've seen this referenced a few times in other threads as well. What does this mean? Who says that a road is not "supposed" to be a major road (legit question - is it defined in a town plan somewhere or something?)

Also, why would we close off 4th Line at LSL as someone suggested? That is the only option to connect to Lower Base Line out of HV. I don't think we should be restricting entry/exit points out of HV.

To me the biggest problem is allowing parking on 4th Line.

Ok ... my apologies ..... just another example of how 'writing' something down in text doesn't always come off the way you want it to

Years ago when we lived in Brampton I saw this almost everyday ..... the bus driver would lay on the horn but the guy was always driving too fast to get a plate #.

But again .... sorry for calling you and MDJ03 a-holes ..... blame it on my PMS

Jo

Haha, no need to apologize. I've been called much worse.
You might want to have a doctor look at that PMS though before it spreads. :)

I was going to follow up with this question:

When the snow falls, which road gets cleared first:

1) 4th line
2) Hearst Blvd
3) Marshall Crescent
4) Somerville Terrace

The town actually has a very clear definition of what constitutes a main road, and ranks every single road in our dear neighborhood in order of importance.

I live on Fourth Line and it is really dangerous.

Imagine my surprise that they have now moved our mailboxes out onto Fourth Line (just north of Menefy Place). Since it is a two lane road (with no shoulder) you are blocking a lane if you are in your car and stop to get your mail.

If you stop on the west side you are in front of a "no parking" sign and if you stop on the east side you are quite close to a fire hydrant.

I have almost been hit two nights in a row. There is no shoulder and people drive really fast on Fourth Line.

I will be complaining to Canada Post about the mailbox location, but the speeds that people drive are just ridiculous!

I know that we can walk to the mailbox, but some nights it is easier to just pick up the mail when you are out in your car. I just can't believe that anyone would be stupid enough to put mailboxes in such a dangerous location (just past the creek).

Sorry for the rant.....but Fourth Line is really dangerous, and even though I live directly on Fourth Line I am in total agreement that they should have very limited parking on Fourth Line.

Just to be clear, are you complaining about the area between LSL and Brittania that has empty fields on both sides?

I think the big problem with 4th line is that it is a fairly major road, but the people who live on that street are trying to ignore that fact.

Fourth Line is supposed to be a residential street. That's why it is closed off at Derry. Once JSP opens, I suspect that the traffic will slow down some but not completely.

As for who to report the guy who passed the school bus, tell the driver your a witness. The law changed at the beginning of they year that made the bus drivers defacto officer of the court. Allows the police to lay charges.

So, to resurrect an old thread... We were surprised to see a 3 way stop at 4th line and Menefy on the weekend.

I almost blasted through the damned thing last night! There was a truck parked just before the intersection obscuring the new stop signs. Holly sh*t did I jam on the breaks. Sorta an overreaction, I could have safely run the sign, but it surprised the hell out of me.

Had the exact same experience last night. Only noticed the stop sign after going around the truck. BTW that tow truck parks at that spot every day and I believe belongs to the owner of the corner house.
