Milton alone no.
Milton, Burlington, Oakville, Halton Hills, Mississauga, Brampton, Guelph, Cambridge? Yes.
The campus won't limit enrollment to only Milton kids. It will attract from around the GTA and surrounding area for it's programming. Kingston on it's own can't support Queens, yet it's a highly successful campus because it has high quality and unique programming that attract students from across Canada and the world.
I'd suspect from what I've read about what Laurier offers it would be more tailored to Ontario students looking for programs on sustainability and will have arts and science programs.
That being said, these types of projects require long term vision. We are not talking about short term here. We are talking mid and long term. The intial focus will be the development of accredited bachelor programs. Then it grows slowy to introduce Masters, then PhD programs. This takes about 10-15 years.
Having the physical land to grow over the long term is important. These are not institutions that jump fully formed out of the ground.

Thanks Freemantrailfamily.

kf095 Milton is big enough now for the first phase of the proposed 3000 student campus in 2016+ as there is more than that number of students already in the 3 (soon to be 4) high schools in Milton, as Milton is not only the youngest municipality in the GTA (34.1 years old median age) is also has the largest percentage of population under the age of 14 years (24.5% almost 20,000 children) with the under 4 year old group being the 3rd highest age group population (see attached link page 2 a double pyramid unlike any other municipality in Halton)

http://www.cdhalton.ca/pdf/communitylen ... ens_77.pdf

Considering that the Town population is estimated to grow to 162,000 people in 2021 (up from the estimated 95,000 people now) mostly from the 50,000 new resident Boyne Survey (starting in 2014?) directly opposite the Education Village entrance Louis St. Laurent which is now paved and ready for access to the area west of Tremaine road.

There is the potential for Laurier to serve the expanding GMA including the suburbs of Oakville, Burlington and Halton Hills with the population of Halton growing from the present estimated 520,000 people to 780,000 people in 2031 and proposed 1,010,000 people in 2041 according to the new amendment 2 provincial Places to Grow proposals which Milton and Halton council's will be responding to in February.

Laurier and Sheridan College which is another partner in the MEV are working with the Town and other partners to have a co-ordinated educational and recreational facility that all residents and businesses can benefit from in the Milton area.

There should be more news in the new year depending on the provincial government.

Colin Best
Local & regional councillor
Wards 2,3,4,5, North of Derry road.

Our government is broke. I'd rather see my, excuse me, our money going into our hospital and roads. Given all the hanky panky going on with velodoom, our Town is bleeding money to special interest groups and sole-sourced consultants. Its not too late to make things right..........

Despite what some people have been saying, the University has NOT been approved yet and it maybe several years in the future depending on Provincial funding.

The province might be all tapped out covering velodrome cost overruns and other goofball Milton boondoggles by then. I'd plan on later rather than sooner.
