Since we live next to the busiest highway we should not care any more about pollution or our health. Using this logic ... since you eat at a fast food place you should start smoking.

401 we need to live with...it is there...
powerplant - not there yet.

why add to the pollution of the 401 with more pollution in the forms of noise, visual and noise.

Quoting New to Milton:

Yet we live near the BUSIEST HYWAY in North America and produce more garbage per person than any conutry other than the US? How HIPOCRITICAL is that?

also animals on farms produce 75% of the methane and carbon dioxide that contributes to greehnouse gases...

Now everyone will say we cant change the farms or the 401 so we have to "live" with it...

ranger, we always import power on the grid in times of need either from the u.s. or quebec....so why do we need to pollute the escarpment area....
there are viable clean alternative...such as nuclear, of which bruce nuclear is spending another 600 million to tap into the grid...and its clean...and you will be sucking in the fumes,

have you ever seen the smog in L.A., which always seems to be trapped due to the location of the mountains and the winds which tend to put a cap on the smog......same thing will happen here

whats worse is some hick in halton hills is messing with YOUR health and welfare for the good of haltons pocket book...

its nice to know there are people who care

Councillor McFadden has asked me to thank you for expressing your concerns to her. Councillor McFadden feels the same way and will do anything she can to express her disapproval.

This isn't helping Haltons pocket book... anyone who owned that site would have had to enter into a cost sharing agreement with the city and pre-pay some development charges (as have the other land owners along that stretch of Steeles... Mold Masters and LAG have had to pay millions to Halton as well).

meant to say halton hills council

"Opposition was fierce from Milton, which is perhaps indicative to why TransCanada dangled their $1.5 million dollar debt relief carrot in front of Halton Hills council..."

William... you need to include the full quote (and take into account that this paper is way one sided)

"Opposition was fierce from Milton, which is perhaps indicative to why TransCanada dangled their $1.5 million dollar debt relief carrot in front of Halton Hills council rather than in Milton, where TransCanada CEO Hal Kvisle openly admitted, “was more convenient for a plant to be situated”. The $1.5 million political pay-off is to relieve council from its debt obligations with regards to the controversial - private land development deals made with property investors, developers and financial political campaign supporters of members of council who voted in favour of using taxpayers money to further develop private property in the 401 area. "

This payment was just the pre-payment of some development charges to offset some of the costs of improving infrastructure that Halton has had to front end. This isn't dirty dealing, and is normal in all areas of Ontario today. LAG and Mold Masters have also had to pay as well...which wasn't mentioned in the article. Further, municipalities have to pay for roads, sewers etc to "improve" land, which they recover later through development charges... see my earlier post in this conversation on how these things are funded.

I am not taking a pro or con position regarding the plant in these posts... but there seems to be a lot of misinformation out there that I am trying to help clear up... Its a lot more fun if we can all argue back and forth with facts... :)

Thanks for all the comments regarding the Trans Canada Energy proposal. I am attaching what the plant may look like from the #401 westbound just west of the Trafalgar Road interchange. The twin stacks are 200 feet high and 20 feet in diameter similar in size to the old Lakeview Generating plant near Port Credit that were recently torn down. Notice how they dominate the landscape and the escarpment.Image[/img]

Colin, that picture opens your eyes a little about the 'esthetics' of the situation (not gonna get into the other issues surrounding it). However, from what I remember about the diameter of the stacks on the lakeshore site, those ones looked a lot smaller in diameter. The one in the picture you made reminds me of a nuclear power plant type stack. The ones on lakeshore seemed very skinny by comparison. Just my take. Also, isn't this new plant close to Steeles? I ask because in that pick that looks a little too close to the 401 if it is at Steeles. Not trying to debate the authenticity of the pic, just want to clear that up. Thanks.

Sorry it was the best we could come up with based on the information Trans Canada has given the Town and Region you can check their drawing at www.transcanada.com/haltonhills/index.html which is also on the Town home page on the second page of announcements.

Compare their drawing and note Highway # 401 is at the bottom left hand corner of the enlarged photo the stacks would be approximately 100-200 metres north of the highway and the hydro towers behind it are almost 2 km. further west are 175 feet tall. If you are driving on the #401 check out the Roxul stack which is only 2 feet in diameter at the top you will have a better idea of the size and height of these proposed stack. Just wanted to give people a perspective of what this plant may look like. If anyone can do better please post it.
Thanks
Colin Best
Local & Regional Councillor
Wards 2 & 4.

ps. the Region has asked the Ministry of Environment for an individual environmental assessment of this proposal based on concerns of air quality, noise and traffic. I think this view may assist in other concerns as well.
