To be honest, I am sure this "inspector" is pretty good at his job and people are willing to pay for a home "inspection", but really, educate yourself and you will know what to look for and avoid spending this kind of money that can be put towards the house when you move in.

Go ahead, let me have it, but that is my opinion only

We had Andy from Halton Home Inspection over yesterday to inspect our Intracorp house prior to our 1-year Tarion warranty submission. We've lived in Milton since 1990 and are now in our 4th home, all of which we had inspected at some point - I have to say that Andy's inspection was more thorough and professional than any of our previous ones. He pointed out problem areas and items not meeting the Ontario building codes, explained everything in detail, and took time to answer all my questions. Quick aside: One of the forum members recently suggested that homeowners should educate themselves to be able to identify problems themselves and avoid spending money for an inspection... my reply to that would be that I, for one, am busy earning a living and would rather enjoy my time off with my family etc. (not to mention that I don't want to purchase an infrared camera, which took great photos of problem areas...).

I consider the $379 + tax for Andy's excellent service and 4-hour inspection more than worthwhile, and highly recommend him - now we're in a position to add a bunch of items that Andy identified, some quite serious, to my 1-year list along with the mostly cosmetic items we had already added. I highly recommend Andy's services to anyone who wants peace of mind and wants to be sure all problems are identified - thanks again for a job well done Andy!!

I just wanted to thank Andy Shaw for helping me out today. I have used Andy a number of times over the last few years and highly recommend this service. A few days ago I found we had a leak in our roof. I was very worried about the amount of water in behind the walls and ceiling. I emailed Andy to get some advice on what the builder should be replacing. Without asking, Andy offered to come by and take a look with this Infrared Camera. Im happy to know what work needs to get done.

We had our year end inspection done through Andy few days back .Andy was very professional, took his time to explain everything and pointed out few things we wouldn't have noticed! specially in the Attic.
Highly recommend Andy for your home inspections.

A nice plus is that you are not tied to any real estate agents or builders (you make that very apparent!)
This is important to ensure a non-biased inspection (which was done).

From your notes I have created a list of the issues I need to address, and plan to have most, if not all, rectified before I start moving in.
