Can we delink underemployed immigrants from this thread please? It is a recognized fact. There have been links to federal government on the topic. I appreciate it is a lot to take in. However, this has nothing to do with the school naming issue.

I'll ask again, who is the Coates that Coates Crossing was named after? That seems to be what some would have preferred the school be called. I'm fine with TJS, but I never dug into why my Mattamy/Milton named is Coates Crossing. Edit: I see Mr. Hockey has started a new thread on that Q. So, if we agree this thread isn't really about underemployed immigrants, then perhaps this thread has run its course. :)

Why would someone with that much knowldege and skill drive a cab? Why wouldn't they work for a much larger employer where their skill set would actually be appreciated? Maybe sell drugs through one of the large Pharma's out there? I don't know, maybe its just me but I don't buy it?

I tell you why they don't find any other respectable job because they don't fit the "culture" of these larger employers. How many coloured people with a strong accent have you seen in your company's management or even in your office environment?

(1) I agree with you.

(2) I gently ask again:

I'd rather not start a new thread on underemployed immigrants as I can only imagine the kind of posts it'll get.

Let's just end this piece. (Although when others log on see this topic, I imagine it'll never end....)

Yes there are many immigrants who have degrees that should be recognized here. There are also many immigrants who have degrees that aren't worth the money they paid for them from various instiutions around the world.

I think by now the whole world knows the quality of education system in India. If not then check US' Silicon Valley and the hospitals all over the US. Yet, when those same folks land here, they have to drive taxis, deliver pizza and work in factories because they don't have "Canadian" experience, speak with an "accent" and hence don't fit the "culture"

I found this statement extremely discriminatory against Jewish and Russian speaking people. They are very well present in Silicon Valley too. Some of them are also driving taxi in Canada and working in hospitals.
But.
I know entire family of two generatios of Russians in USA, working in hospitals and I know another Ukranian family with two doctors refused for jobs in Canada and moving to USA to find jobs right away.
It is more easy to find job in USA then in Canada no matter which race you are. Period.
Here is the Universities rank. Check it first, before making false statements here about level of education in India compare to the rest of the world.

Do yourself a favour, read about what it going on in Canada first, before making discriminatory statements and tossing racists cart for no reason.

FYI: “Goats Crossing vs Coats Crossing” means humour in my culture. Are you against of it?

It is getting a bit too hostile and personal-attacky around here.... by a handful of posters....

It is too bad that discussions about culture, race, tolerance, immigration, often aren't civilized, respetcfull dialogues....

Again, we're drifting further and further away from the initial purpose of this thread....

Ok. Based on the last few posts, it is time for me to leave to enjoy the rain..... Perhaps when folks cool down, I'll pop back to see what I missed around here. Have a great day everyone. And, don't forget to adjust your clocks tonight. :)

Fixkarma, your arguments are absolutely ridiculous, if not silly. What makes you think that every Indian immigrant should be automatically given "golden ticket" to land a great job when arriving in Canada? I hate that kind of "I am here, so take care of me" attitude.
I am a recent immigrant also, and prior to settling down in Canada, I have lived in the U.S. and the U.K., I can tell you without any doubt that integration of immigrants in Canada is much better than anywhere in the world.

BTW, anyone notice how this thread has drifted from naming of schools to um "culturalist" concerns to other immigrant type issues.

Doesn't that really signify that the issue behind concerns over the naming of TJS is really about race/culture/whathaveyou than wrestling, etc.

Just a thought.

bingo!! i firmly believe that once one actually delves into finding out what this man is actually about, there can be no judgement...it is a fitting choice--whether the name be his stage name or his given name....

btw...i find anyone who jumps to racial concerns right away are often racist themselves...tolerance, just as everything else, starts at home...or in this case with the individual....
and why has this become about one ethnic group? i remember when the "cool" thing was to berate the spanish and the italians and the portuguese as unworthy....i have a few members of my family who had medical credentials not from their home country but from britain, where they first emmigrated to, and yet here those credentials were not recognized....is this not the same? my parents, and others in my family, did not have the money to invest in more schooling at that time and so found jobs, in factories or shops, built up some cash, and then decided (my parents and my aunt and uncle) to open their own business.......hmmmmmmmm....from two suitcases to not owing a thing to anyone...except to family who helped them to get onto their feet for a few months.....how many here can say that they have done this? i am extremely proud of this on their behalf, and as i grew up and actually matured...i strive for the same...there are no complaints about who's doing what to 'hold me down'...i just work to overcome that obstacle and work bloody hard to do it.....perhaps this is what could be happening in these cases....a stepping stone to get to where they want to be...
and as an aside....it scares me to hear that the US is better than Canada with racism?!?! that's a first for me!
