I thought I would join in. I just finished patting myself on the back.

How much is this going to cost the average citizen? The property tax levy.. Is this repealed? Is it going up?

It seems to me that MDH emergency room is hit or miss. I hear stories of people in and out within a few hours and then there are stories like my son's who was critically ill as an infant and sent home three days in a row. Then Oakville saw him and admitted him to ICU on the spot. Not sure if the MDH nurses went to a different nursing school  Hopefully this expansion brings in some new 'less cranky' front line staff.

Dream on. They will just have a fancy facility to be "cranky" in.

Competent candidates should be sure they have their facts straight before allowing pressers out.
From her press release:
"...the commitment to healthcare by the McGuinty government unlike the previous PC government that shut the doors on 28 hospitals during the Harris/Hudak years."
http://voteindira.ca/News/467?l=EN

Fo those who are unclear, there have never been any "Hudak years."

That's not quite right. Hudak was in Harris's government. In fact, he was Parliamentary Secretary under Minister of Health, Elizabeth Witmer. He wasn't a major decision maker, that's true, but I don't think he can be fully let off the hook for the hospital closures and the overall decline of health care in the province during those years.

especially during an election campaign when the Liberals are grasping at straws... funny how that JUST came up, even if Hudak was completely against it he would have toed the company line. let's keep it real here

I read a fair amount of news, including local news, and I have not heard anything on the hospital expansion since the original announcement. It has been about 6 months since the announcement - if I have missed any further announcements, can someone point me to when/where they were. If I have not missed anything, should I be worried?

Hi rickp

You will not be hearing much at present as Halton Health Care is in the process for the detailed designs and phasing of the project which takes about a year to do.

You can check on http://www.haltonhealthcare.com/home.php for news and details on three expansions for the Mlton, Oakville and Georgetown hospitals and when the major fundraising efforts start the Hospital Foundation will be making some major announcements about the fundraising plans.

On Thursday Allan Halls the Hospital manager told the community fundraisers at the fundraiser appreciation night that there will be more news later in the year on the details of the phasing plan when the work will begin and how the hospital will handle the construction work while operating the hospital.

The Town will also be having a public discussion on how the raise the 10% local share later in the year as part of the efforts by a number of groups to have the expansion completed before the projected 2017 opening.

You will be seeing more in the local media and on the villager about this and a number of other projects in town.

Local & regional councillor

Honestly until they replace most of the staff at that hospital ,its not worth going to anyhow, they are so rude, and any time I have been in emerg, you are left sitting in the waiting room while a whole bunch of people ,mingle around in the front area, appearing to do nothing ,but chat and look bored.

Most people who complain about the hospital is mainly about emerg. People in emerg are pissed off because they feel they should be seen first or are more important. Even moreso they feel a queue system would work here. It doesn't. Whoever needs most attention should go in next. Lets break down why they're so rude. Could it be that these very same frustrated people are bitching to them in their face? Sure as f**K sounds like it. Ifs emerg, everyone's gonna be pissy, even the doctors cuz they're overworked because remember Milton has outgrown itself. Don't bitch about the people trying to pick up the slack.

The complainers haven't learned the trick of the puppy-dog eyes and to act tough about whatever's wrong with you at the same time. I give them this weird look, while at the same time act like it's stupid that I'm even there ("I can beat this!") and they rush me in right away.

Although, this could also be because I reserve my hospital visits for actual emergencies, but whatever.

+1. Hahaha. I have yet to but i assume I'll be pissy too but once i get home rational thought would return.

Crappy hospital and crappier staff!

Waited 10 hours before seen with chest pain and short breath! Guess what! I almost f*** died! It turned out a blood clot that just passed through the heart and lodged in the lung. Guess what? After being admitted, I was placed in a chair as no bed where available and had to wait and wait again before being seen as there was a scheduling mishap and no doctor was in the hospital!!! Are you kidding me?
And guess what else? I was sent home after receiving an high level of blood thinners to prevent a heart attack over night until they had a bed the next day!

This system and hospital suck!

Well your blasting people who can't defend themselves. Were you aware of all the circumstances that led to their actions? How do you know that they weren't so dead tired because they were over worked and led to a bad decision? Do you never make mistakes. I just think once they are operating with a staff that can handle this town the experiences will be better and if not then its fair to blast them. I don't know about you but isn't shortness of breath pretty standard stuff, I mean couldn't that be just about anything? Not something I would have rushed you in for either even though I would have been wrong. Just sayin...

I don't know why I'm even responding. Do you f****** understand I was as close to a heart attack as anyone can be? Are people with sneezing and coughing flu like symptoms more important?

Did you even read where I said there was no f****** doctor on staff!!!

Hmm how do I say this nicely, I probably didn't read it properly cuz I don't really f*** care. You'd be a bigot should you return to that hospital for an emergency in the future

Anyway glad you're alright, peace out...

You should try a colonoscopy or some other non-emergency procedure. The process is much more pleasant.

The emergency room suffers the most when a hospital is built to only serve one third of the current population. Likewise, the emergency staff is overworked because they are trying to serve three times as many patients as the building is designed to handle. I would seriously consider the added risk of driving to the emergency rooms of other nearby hospitals in hopes of being cared for more expeditiously. Not an ideal situation but one to consider when you are assessing the urgency of your emergency.
