The vast majority of those consulted in preparation of this report were current Milton Transit users, so you can assume they would be in favour of increasing service. I suspect had a more intensive consultation process been done, such as speaking with people at the Milton Mall, farmer's market, sports centers to name a few, the results may have been a bit different, Unfortunately that wasn't done, I guess $160 thousand doesn't get you much these days. Also Tony talks about Saturday service, the consultants report stated that providing this service would cost tax payers $ 190 K, I have since found out and had it confirmed by our transit dept. that in fact it will cost tax payers $ 230 K. My concern now is if the consultant was 20% off on this number how confidant can we be that all the other numbers and projections they provided are accurate. I guess I shouldn't worry about it though, Milton has all sorts of money, and if we need more we can always rely on a member of council to introduce a new tax levy.....

Hi Rick ... and Tony
There is a way for you both to be on the same side of a Transit vote. Tony you are voting against further development at the region until the province meets its promises - I presume you will take the same stand at Town Council as anything else would be hypocritical!
The Transit Master Plan assumes growth will continue at the current pace and does not take into account the delay that you advocate. So "walking the walk" means you should vote to have discussion on the Transit Master Plan reopened otherwise you are wasting taxpayers, ie your voters, money! I am sure Rick would be happy to second your motion and it will be interesting to see if the Mayor and Colin vote with you at Region and are also prepared to "walk the walk".
I guess it also means the two proposals for the Main St/JSP vicinity should be in jeopardy as well - wonder how OMB will look at that? Many of the residents will be happy!

Hi Martin,
Good afternoon, I hope you are well. Yes, I will be voting against any more development as a Milton Councillor on Milton Council, to prevent more congestion on our regional roads until the province keeps their promise to be our partners in growth by providing options to Miltonians for an all day two way train service, and a Milton East GO station at Trafalgar and Derry. The East Milton GO station is very important because it will alleviate parking at the Milton GO station because a high percentage of commuters at the Milton GO station, drive there and park from Georgetown Cambridge and Kitchener. If we have a GO station at Trafalgar & Derry, it will significantly improve the Milton GO station parking. As well , many future Miltonians who will be living south of Louis St. Laurent and west of James Snow Parkway will need that East Milton GO station (Trafalgar & Derry).
The Transportation Master Plan approved by Milton council this year does not kick in unless #1. We have money in each particular year identified in the annual budget process (and then passed by Milton Council), each and every year. It's dependant on the money Milton has, and the particular votes of Milton's elected representatives in that specific year.
And then the second requirement is - #2. ridership targets are met. If there are not enough people taking public transit in Milton, council can decide to not implement the recommendation of the Transportation Plan for that specific year. So the delay I will be fighting for on future development unless the province changes their stance on Milton (and I hope their reading this), kicks in. Less new people/development = less local transit expansion/costs. So therefore, Mr/Mrs. Taxpayer is protected if I win and show the Government of Ontario to think twice. To not try to force 150,000 people in my 4 wards on top of the 100,000 people here, and not keep up transportation infrastructure (trains as an option).
I will be voting against future development on Milton Council because the province is not keeping their promise to me and the people I represent. No, I will not be trying to reopen developments we (Milton Council) already passed based on the province's promises of help during our growth.
As for "walking the walk",
I will "walk" mine. Just watch for my request for a recorded vote next Wednesday.
Yes, our town - our way. (Don't try taking advantage of my constituents while I'm on Milton & Halton Council -
Any government, Any Company....
..it's not worth it...you're gonna lose).
Best Regards,
Tony
