I would love to see the backup of where the 95K went.

I'm pretty sure Milton Says No could easily spend the 7K (and probably the 95K these guys got) on signage and pamphlets and meetings etc.

Wow. Just wow.

Couldn't have anything to do with business opportunities ...

Federal Government: "Here's $95,600.00 incase you change your mind and want to oppose it. Don't spend it all in one place."

A couple of quick updates from the various Ministry responses:
- The sanitary discharge and equipment wash water is subject to Environment ministry reinforcement and the current proposal will need to be amended
- There maybe a public consultation under the Environment Bill of Rights to assess the impact of some of the facets of the proposal
- MoT have identified pollution concerns from this site (trucks, trains, etc) and have requested further clarification
- MetroLinks has an interest in this project due to the impact on commuter train traffic and limitation on expansion plans

Maybe the First Nations could stop the inter-modal after all.

Thank you Halton Home Inspector for the email address of CEAA. As the nice lady suggested, could everyone please email CEAA the below petition if you think that this petition would do it? Please kindly advise feedback. Thank you

We the undersigned residents of the Regional Municipality of Halton, draw the attention of Canadian Environmental Assessment Agency ( CEAA ) following:

THAT R.A.I.L. (Residents Affected By Intermodal Lines), MILTON SAYS NO, and the undersigned express our concern about the impact of the “proposed” CN major Intermodal Terminal Facility in our community and our opposition to the development of the “proposed” CN major Intermodal Terminal Facility on existing agricultural land in Milton;

THAT this intermodal terminal will have devastating long lasting impacts on the local residents, the Town of Milton and the Regional Municipality of Halton and surrounding communities;

THAT the proposed CN intermodal terminal will have severe impacts on the region in question-disappearing farm land, destruction of residential living areas, destruction of the environment, noise, vibration, light trespass, air pollution, greenhouse gas emissions and hazardous materials use, water depletion and contamination, destruction of water courses, wetlands, trees, wildlife, and will negatively affect our health, quality of life, safety and well being;

THAT this proposed intermodal terminal is a significant distance from any major highways, 10km from HWY 401, 11km from QEW and 7.5km from HWY 407;

THAT the impact of substantial truck traffic of up to 3,000 trucks per day, affecting our environment, our health and safety, our existing infrastructure, our local roads and local road crossings which act as main commuter routes, bus routes and provide access to our local hospital, schools, fire department, police and emergency vehicles, will all suffer from further wear, congestion, toxic pollution, dust and particulates;

THAT this proposed intermodal terminal would have negative impacts on the local environment of the Niagara Escarpment and Mount Nemo;

THAT the proposed intermodal terminal will raise significant security implications in regards to the terrorist threat of alterations and/or theft of hazardous materials, the threat of the stealing of consumer goods, the fear of stowaways and any other vandalism;

THAT the proposed intermodal terminal would bring a danger to the public from the inherent risks associated with transporting hazardous materials, along with the threat of hazardous spills and dangerous goods train derailments;

THAT the proposed intermodal terminal would operate 24 hours per day, 7 days per week and 365 days per year;

THAT the proposed intermodal terminal would have a negative effect on residential property values;

THAT the proposed intermodal terminal does not belong on existing agricultural land, our valued greenspace, or near existing residents;

THAT rail intermodal terminals belong on industrial land, immediately adjacent to major highways;

THAT the proposed intermodal terminal does not belong near the future residents of Milton in accordance with the Town of Milton’s Official Plan for residential development;

THAT CN (Canadian National Railway Company) currently owns land and property in Phase 3 that is in the Town of Milton’s Official Plan for future residential development;

THAT the proposed development is contrary to the Halton Urban Structure Plans and the Region of Halton Official Plan and the Town of Milton’s Official Plan;

THAT the land size acquired by CN is well over 1,100 acres, this is substantially more land than CN’s proposed size of the facility at its final capacity of 400 acres; THEREFORE, your petitioners call upon the Government of Canada & Canadian Environmental Assessment Agency to STOP the development of the proposed CN (Canadian National Railway Company) major Intermodal Terminal Facility in the Town of Milton or surrounding area.

The position of the chamber of commerce does not represent the opinion of all its members. Not many people participated in this vote and from I understand it only involved the board members (business owners and associations part of the chamber of commerce were not consulted or even involved in this vote). It only represents the view of a select few (someone correct me if I am wrong). This vote does not mean we have lost the battle, it's just a small hurdle. It's just disappointing that they failed to look after what is best for our town and its residents. For those interested there are a few more things you can do to help oppose CN. RAIL has postcards that are destined to the three key cabinet ministers in government (public safety, environmental and transportation minister) and there is no postage required (just fill out your name, address and signature and it is ready to send). This is not the same as filling out the petition so please do both if you are opposed to CN. You can contact representatives from RAIL or MSN directly for more info. The petition is available online if you want to collect signatures of friends and loved ones (please make sure all members of the family sign if possible, every name counts) and once you are done just call MSN or RAIL and they will arrange pick-up. I have a copy of the petition as well as postcards from RAIL. If easier, you can pm me and I will help. I am not a member of either group but I am volunteering my help as a concerned citizen and I appreciate what both groups are trying to do to help us.
Thanks
-Priscilla

Also RAIL is inviting local businesses to write an email to the Chamber of Commerce at info@miltonchamber.ca to RESPECTFULLY let their concerns be known in regards to this decision. You can also cc info@MiltonRAIL.com and they will keep count of the number of emails sent out (they will now list businesses specifically to maintain confidentiality) for the EA panel review and present this information if it is needed to strengthen our town's position on this issue. You can follow the Milton RAIL group on Facebook to stay informed and receive relevant updates or to get in touch with its representatives to find out how you can help. Everybody counts so please get involved. Let your voice be heard :D

The Canadian Environmental Assessment Agency (the Agency) has received the Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) for the Milton Logistics Hub Project (the Project) from the proponent, Canadian National Railway Company (CN). The EIS is publicly available on the Canadian Environmental Assessment Registry Internet Site (public registry) at the following location: http://www.ceaa-acee.gc.ca/050/document-eng.cfm?document=104074

This phase of the review process is referred to as the pre-panel phase. The Agency will conduct a conformity scan of the EIS to determine whether elements of the EIS Guidelines are presented in the EIS in a manner that would allow the review panel, once appointed, to begin its technical review of the project. An opportunity for participants to comment on the sufficiency and technical merit of the EIS will be provided by the review panel once it is appointed.

In early 2016, the Agency expects to invite the public to comment on the draft terms of reference for the review panel. The terms of reference will set out the mandate of the review panel including the scope of the environmental assessment, and the process and the timelines for the review panel to complete its review.

In accordance with the Canadian Environmental Assessment Act, 2012, comments received and information submitted to inform the environmental assessment process are considered part of the project file unless public disclosure is prohibited under the Access to Information Act and Privacy Act. Accordingly, information provided to the Agency will be posted to the Canadian Environmental Assessment Registry Internet site under reference number 80100.

For more information on the environmental assessment of the project, visit the public registry, reference number 80100.

Strange - when the Executive Director, without reference even to the Board, endorsed the velodrome there wasn't a peep from the membership!

Two completely different issues with different ramifications. The negative impacts of both aren't even on the same scale.
