I'm not sure how many of you already know about this....at 8pm on March 29, 2008 millions of people in some of the world’s major cities, including Copenhagen, Toronto, Chicago, Melbourne, Brisbane and Tel Aviv will unite and switch off their lights for an hour between 8 PM - 9 PM for Earth Hour in order to show action against global warming. It would be great if we could all participate in this. Visit: www.earthhour.org for more info |

So can I still watch T.V. or use the computer during this hour or is the idea as little energy use as possible from all possible sources? |

Just because I think this sort of stuff is a bunch of nonsense, I plan to light up my house like a Christmas tree, and idle my car in the driveway. |

What's the point of doing this if you're just going to turn them back on after the hour? I've always felt that "raising awareness" was the unemployed arts students way of doing nothing. |

I think the point is to use as little energy as possible...there will probably be people who turn off everything for the hour.... but the minimum would be to turn off your lights... Hope this help! |

Does it count if I switch off all my lights but not my computer? ... though I could probably run off battery backup for an hour ... |

We'll in Europe they pay double what we pay now.........................$2.18 (Can) / L and if you look if that's changed anything well look again. Besides smaller cars and more diesel engines they still drive as much as we do..... Anyway the PMO is run by oil companies so if the price went up to 5 dollars/L all that money would go to the government and the big oil giants not the environment!!..Do you think all that tax that's suppose to go to repair roads and make new ones really go there?? I think not! Anyway we pay for our electricity, if thats not reason enough to turn off your lights then we are as guilty as everyone else... to do it in one hour on one day in one year is a joke, it should get through our brains and our wallets how much energy each of us wastes...thats why I voted NO...because it should be done everyday and I'm as guilty as the next person for not turning off lights when I leave a room, so I feel it when I see my monthly bill even though I can watch tv, go on the computer, have the heat on high, talk on the phone and run a bath all at the same time..when will I learn?? |
