Before this turns into a cat hating flamewar, try planting strong smelling plants in the garden, onions, or garlic. If you don't want to go that way, a lot of succulents can release putrid (to cat) smells, or moth balls.

My neighbours have seen me do that with my cat Chester MANY times...

Sadly it just amuses the cats and mine wont stay away HAHAHA.

I'm all for cats...but I completely empathize with your frustration, as I was out yesterday doing a bit of clean up, and it was pretty blood-boiling to have to clean up crap all over my backyard from a cat that I don't own.

I didn't choose to own a pet for a reason, and I think it's unfair for those who "choose" to own a pet, and then "share" the responsibility with the entire neighborhood.

My situation is a little different, the cat owner in question is not a responsible owner, and this cat I don't think is EVER inside....I know there are not many owners like that in the area....

As for the deterrants, I've tried several, but none for me have worked. This particular cat as I said is even crapping in the middle of my lawn...very odd.

Good Luck, I'd be interested in hearing suggestions too. Apart from buying a BB gun....KIDDING.....KIDDING!!!!!!!!! Don't shoot me!!

Good cat deterrents: cayenne pepper, coffee grounds, pipe tobacco, lavender oil, lemon grass oil, citronella oil, eucalyptus oil and mustard oil.

No owner shall permit his or her animal to trespass or to be at large in any public place or on private property without the consent of the property owner.

Cats

Cats do not require registration or a license. However, every owner of a cat must have a collar with the owner's name and address permanently inscribed. Cat owners must ensure that their pets do not run at large and follow all other guidelines according to the Animal Control By-law.

I will have to second Shannon V's recommendation of cayenne pepper...

A few summers back... whenever my mom would have her windows open... our neighbours cat would push the screen aside and make it's way into my mom's house... I called the city... and they recommended sprinkling cayenne pepper...

After we tried this... the cat never returned...
