The Oakville incident is not related. A couple in Burlington had their house invaded. They were tied up and their keys and car were stolen. The intruders then went to the couple's jewelry store in Oakville. The plaza at Trafalgar and Cornwall was under lockdown for many hours last night. The Milton one probably was opportunity. |

I hope these guys come to my house, they wont even be leaving in the ambulance. Ambulance's do not remove or pick up dead bodies!!! |

That's the thing about the law regarding this. You can use lethal force if you feel your life or family's life is in danger. Personally, if someone broke into our home while we were there, that's one big step to a threat on our lives. Tim No kidding. By no means do I endorse vigilante justice, but someone breaks into my house, that to me means our safety is in danger. I hope I never have to find out, but I can't imagine the victim being calm and rationale enough to make the legal distinction between defending yourself and excessive force. If you are going to break into someone's house, you deserve whatever's coming to you. -S. |

You'd most likely do nothing, as the intruder(s) will take care of you first. How often do you hear about a home invasion vs the amount of times the home owner overpowers the intruder? Almost never. It's very rare. Just hope you never have it happen to you. Ask the poor guy tied up in Burlington last night. It's advantage intruder(s) all the way. |

I was talking with my wife on the phone a little while ago, and apparently, the home across the street from us (Hollinrake Cres) was broken into as well. Lucky for the intruder they didn't break into our house, because I've recently finished watching Dexter, seasons 1 and 2

Its unfortunate that this does happen, but take care not to make you home or car an appealing target for would be thieves. Lock your doors at night or when not at home, keep your car locked, and dont leave valuables in plain site. MP3 Players, Lap Tops, and purses are easy targets. So are car keys. Also, close your windows, If you leave your casement windows open even a crack someone can reach in and push your screen out giving them the room to crank it all the way open allowing entry. With cars often its kids just trying door handles until they hit an unlocked one, but the less appealing you make yourself the less likely you are to be targeted. |

I am in the Marshall/Story Dr area, and 2 nights in a row, between 10:30-midnight, I heard a loud bang coming from downstairs.. loud enough that I got out of bed and searched the house.. Now that I'm reading this, uhhh.. especially the break-in on McNeil... I'm convinced the sound was from potential intruders, and not my fridge going haywire. As for you tough guys saying you'll harm the intruder, I'd hate to say, but you're almost 'asking for trouble' like the high strung guys on the 401 the other day. Possessions are worthless if the guy pulls a piece. If someone breaks into my house, I'd almost rather help him load his truck with my electronics (NO sentimental value). Insurance can replace things, not people. That said, I have rigged the backyard with a couple of painful animal traps for the next little while, and alerted my security company who have me on high alert (on their 'immediate response' list). |

Not sure if investigators have since proved or disproved this, but I recall when Washington Redskins' Sean Taylor was killed in his home, the initial belief was that he heard a noise, went to invesitigate and was shot by the intruders who were only intending to rob the place. You have to assume that if someone is going to try to rob your house, they will be carrying some type of weapon to threaten anyone who happens to discover them. -S. |

Tim, I understand.. you just came across a little 'vigilante' with your first post. "I'd like to see them try to get in our's while I'm at home, there'd be a good chance they would be leaving in an ambulance rather than a police car. " You explained well though. |

Agreed. ...and I can see how the thought of intruders would elicit the not-so-sweet response. (your own personal "eff you" to them.) I'm 100% on board with that mentality. |
