So I called the airport and talked with a nice gentleman that told me why so many planes have been flying so close.

Around July 12th, one of the runways started construction. I honestly do not understand how the airport works so I will not try to explain what I heard. But something about in bad weather one runway is shut down in addition to the one that has construction. So I guess above our house the airplane traffic got backed up. He said the bad weather and shut down runway were the main issues.

The new runway will be back up and open on Aug 1st. So this should be a temporary problem. :)

My response is based partially on knowledge and partially in assumptions..

Currently I live in the "airplane" corridor of Mississauga, in fact I can hear a plane overhead as I type this.

Fact:
This corridor runs between eglinton ave (Lower base line) and Derry Road.
If you fall in this area, then most likely, there will always be some airplane noise.

Assumption:
I would assume that due to the distance between the airport and Milton, the noice does not reach a minimum decible level. If the noise did reach the minimum level, then I'm sure that the municipality and/or developers would have to install signs in the neighbourhoods which would warn new home buyers of this noise. This is currently the standard in Mississauga within that corridor.

Fact:
There are 5 main runways at Pearson, two of which run East/West.
The airport decides which runway to use primarily based on wind direction. Planes take-off and land INTO the wind.. so if you see the wind direction is travelling East then you can bet on the planes hovering over Milton as they prepare for landing..

I don't have solid evidence to back this information up, so don't hold ti against me if I'm wrong, but I'm fairly certain that it is all correct.

I'm going to send an e-mail to my friend who works as a dispatcher for the GTAA to see if he can confirm this info, or give us any more insight.
