Post subject:  fencing company using hydro

My neighbours and I are having our fences done right now and the fencing company does not have cordless tools, so they have to use the plugs at the back of our houses. I wouldn't normally have a problem with this if they were using everybody's hydro just a little bit, but they have set up shop in my yard. Every morning they come and plug in their stereo in my yard, they use the other plug for one of their tools, they eat lunch at my table (which I don't really mind except I had to ask them to pick up their garbage!!), and they leave their tools in my yard at the end of the day. This has been going on for the entire week and I make a point of not using much hydro during the day since it is so expensive. I do all of my laundry in the evening etc, so of course I am worried that my hydro bill is going to be triple what it normally is.

I don't have extra money to waste, so I was wondering what others thought about this issue. I want to call the fencing company and ask for a discount on the quoted price for my fence, depending on how much higher than average my bill is.
Any opinions on what I should do?

I would have to say you're being a bit picky here! Your only talking a few dollars here.

yeah, I was just wondering whether I should be concerned or not since I'm not sure how much my hydro bill will go up. I live alone and usually it is around $50 a month (not including water). I was only worried that it would be double! If it only goes up a few dollars, then I don't have a problem with that at all. I guess I will have to see what the damage is when the bill comes in.

Ah the problems of modern society. Remember when people worried about polio and famine?

No? Oh….

I think you should call and complain. All fencing companies should come equipped with a power generator for their tools and a water tank for mixing cement, right Picket?!

:P~

If your concerned about your hydro.
In the front of your home there is an outlet. On this outlet there is a TEST button press this and your power on all your outdoor outlets will be shut off until you press the RESET button.

I think his point is that - it is inconsiderate and rude just to start using your outlets, table in your backyard to eat , etc. - without even asking the homeowner- its rude if you ask me !

I think that is a bit unprofessional for them to use your electricity/hydro without asking.

if you hire a contractor to repair something inside your home too, if he's got non-cordless tools, and needs to plugin to complete the job, would you second guess him doing so?Tim

True, but then they would only be working on your house - not all of your neighbours as well ...

I'd be a little annoyed too.
