Anybody here connect an ipod to your home stereo? I want to do it but I dont want to connect through the earphone jack. I did this when I was younger with a discman and ruined a bunch of stereos and many speakers. Short of buying a new receiver I can't find a way to connect an ipod to a stereo with just a straight line in. I dont want any volume control on the ipod. |

The earphone jack is the way to do it. I don't see how that set up would be the cause of you ruining a stereo in the past. It would just be a regular input to your stereo. The only other option is to use something like a bose stereo, or any other (apple) licenced unit where it uses the main input/output at the bottom. |

You can ruin stereos with it because you are amplifying an amplified signal. If you turn the sound up on the ipod too much then you can really hurt a stereo. I've popped woofers right out of cabinets doing this. |

By putting an amplified source on an input, you will blow in the input before you blow a speaker. If you blew a speaker, you just did not have matching wattage on your speakers vs. your amplifier, |

Had a house party in '92, guy that was there put and justice for all in a discman. It was loud but the stereo was handling it fine, then the dummy hit the megabass switch and the woofer popped out. |

I bought the Apple version of this unit. It works well and will charge your Ipod as well, it even comes with an Apple remote for easy control. http://www.futureshop.ca/catalog/prodde ... 638&catid= |

If your using the ipod line out into an amplifier and have the volume on the ipod turned down you have to compensate by cranking up the volume on your amplifier. If your not careful and then jack the volume on the ipod you run the risk of clipping/blowing your speakers. The dock connector on an ipod has a "line level output" meaning the volume output is preset, and the volume control on the ipod is disabled. The only way to turn the volume up down is through the an external amp. Line Lvl 600ohms - 1.228 V RMS Headphone iPod 5ohm - output :10 mW and 2 W The point i was trying to make as converluted as my post was.... When purchasing you home system, You should match the max speaker wattage to the output wattage of your home receiver amplifier. Then regardless of what input you use, you can not blow a speaker. The problem is most manufactures do not publish the true RMS value of there products, they advertise the peak to peak value. A little know fact about amplifiers; Is the volume knob controls the input volume, not the output... So if you put if you use the iPod headphone output and turn the volume way up, you will ruin the input...... |

You got it already? How is the sound quailty on it? Essentially CD quailty, or a bit lower? |

To me it sounds just like an older cd player because of the analog connection. It would be better if the connection to the receiver was co-ax or fibre optic but nobody seems to make one like this. I dont think they can do straight digital though because of the conversion process from mp3 to wav, I'm no expert though. But the ipod works just like normal, i havent lost control of anything except for the volume control. I have the Honda hook up for my vehicle and it disables the ipod completely, you have to use the stereo controls to change anything. It sucks that way but the sound is amazing. I've heard of a company called USAspec though that makes one for cars that lets you retain control but this Honda one cost me an arm and a leg so I dont want to rush out to buy a new one. I've been moving it around my house to all the different stereos so I might just have to go buy 2 or 3 more of these things. |

Ya, I somewhat think so too, but I was recently required to buy one to test out a system I was installing for a client. In the scope of things it was miniscule compared to his final bill so I kept it. I use it once in a while and plug it into my dock which feeds my house audio system. Kinda neat to bring up playlists, song titles, coverart and everything on the touchscreens. |
