I never thought I'd ever post something like this since I am normally fairly passive. I installed an automatic timer on my yard and when the sprinkler didn't go off, I went out to see what happened. Turned out that Mattamy disconnected my sprinkler, took the hose OFF the timer, connected it to another tap (my house still), and washed the street, sidewalk and watered the front lawn (not my sidewalk, I dont have sodding yet so not my lawn and I have no idea why they needed to wash the street). Worse, they put nothing back. It took me a while to figure out the ideal sprinkler location. Not to mention my backyard was recently sodded and would die because I'd think the timer was watering it (when they disconnected the whole thing). Passiveness, shassiveness. I am going to complain about it. How can someone feel it's okay to go to somebody else's backyard, disconnect their setup, move their sprinkler, take their hose and start using it without permission? This reminds me about my friends issue with Mattamy trades using his electricity without his permission |

Totally strange as it is, this seems to be common almost every year in new areas. Apparently they're not supposed to do it.. but it's done almost every year I'm not sure if the message is really getting across or if there's some wink wink nudge nudge going on. Because I remember in past years people have complained before directly to mattamy about this. You can search older threads and see how this has been occuring for past few years. Mattamy's responsible for watering lawns of houses that people haven't closed/moved in yet, and apparently they sometimes do it using whatever sprinkler or water hose or outside tap they find lying around close by, regardless if someone lives there, or if it's not mattamy's hose or sprinkler. It's funny in a WTF? kind of way cause it's just something so unexpected. |

About a month or so ago we had our hose in the backyard disconnected. No idea why, but it upset me because who ever did it, didn't put it back the way they found it. Our backyard sod at the time was a few weeks old already, so not sure who or why they did it. The homes around us are already moved into. We don't back on to anything, so ??? |

I've just shut off my valve from the basement and turn it on when I need it. Think that's the only way to save yourself. As if Mattamy really gives a rat's ass. |

Happened to us after we moved in. My first thought was one of my new neighbours ripped off our sprinkler, then found out it was Mattamy trades. Mattamy was nice and replaced the sprinkler and a new hose (even though I didn't need a hose). I too am surprised to hear they're still doing that. -S. |

Sorry to hear what happened to you zhamid... I have a question for you though... So, you think it's okay for them to "steal" your water if they don't leave a mess? Is it solely because water doesn't cost you much financial loss? |

zhamid wrote: It's not okay at all. I said if they asked, I'd say "sure". And that if they cleaned up after themselves then I have way too many other things to worry about, so I'd just ignore it (kind of like if someone cuts me off I just hit brakes and go about my driving without thinking much about it).
Ah, I understand... Let us know how (/if) Mattamy responds to this. |

Same here! And they were using it to work on our neighbour's house, at that. |
