I have been chasing my hydro usage for 2 years.

Do not go by the cost of the hydro. go by the Watts used.

Cdn Tire has a device you plug into the wall and then you plug your appliance or whatever into it, almost like a power bar. It will tell you real time what is it drawing. You can extrapulate power consumption from there.

My dehumidiefier is rated at 500 Watts an hour when infact it uses 520.

Good luck
Matt

My wife thought I was nuts when i bought it, I checked evrything! The curling iron and an electric kettle use quite a lot of power.
The fridge is not too bad once you get past the initial spike of it getting power....

Mississauga (and many other cities') libraries carry these Kill-a-Watt devices for free loan. Not sure if Milton does as well.

If you call hydro, they have a computerized system you can log onto and find the exact times your hydro is being used.
I had a home that sat empty for 6 months the only equipment in the home was furnace fridge and stove. My utility bill only dropped by $30.00. The lights were only on when I visited the home. The heat was kept at 16 degree's and only turned up for visits.
When I called hydro to find why my bill has not dropped very much. They're reply was the furnace is always running and fridge and stove. Everything else does not use much. So I asked what's the point in all this, turn off the lights and stuff. She had no answer...
