Since the Conservatives don't have a real environmental platform, this site uses polling info to determine who to vote for so that the Conservatives don't win a majority (then maybe we'll have a chance at a real environmental program that will make an impact).

Although they recommend voting for Garth in the Halton riding.

I guess if you're environmentally minded you might find this site interesting. But it seems that the mood of this board swings more to the right so...

I wouldn't mistake people swinging away from Garth as people swinging to the right.

That said in terms of the environment, while polls (pre-economic crisis in the U.S.)showed Canadians as caring and concerned about the environment, I always interpreted that to mean that those polled think the government should do more NOT necessarily those being polled should do more.

What I marvel at in terms of HV, HVE, and many new communities in GTA/Southern Ontario is the amount of two-car garages with 2 or more cars per household. Until Canadians see themselves and not just the government as part of the solution, we'll never clean up the environment in a sustainable way.

I don't just mean a carbon tax or cap and trade system, I mean day-to-day environmentally friendlier decisons, e.g. bike more, take GO, have 1 car or no car, buy locally produced fruits and veggies, and so many more things that others more in the know than I could chronicle.

Government is only one part of the green solution. People need to see themselves in that equation in a way that makes sense for both the environment and the economy.

I completely agree. But on the other hand, a vast amount of Canadians don't see that the way they are living is affecting the environment. The only way to make them take notice is for government to put some programs, taxes, whatever, in place to force those that don't think about their impact to start to analyse how they're doing things.

So even if the gov't does their part, the regular Canadian can further it by being more conscious and possibly saving themselves some money in the long run.

IMHO This strategic initiative goes against the whole concept of democracy. I can't believe this is happening in Canada.

It's like a lynch mob putting their differences aside to target a specific group. Come on, vote for the person you see fit. Let the chips fall as they may. But instead what's happening? Vote not for the one you like, just vote so a specific person doesn't win?

First the debate, then I heard about this. This initiative actually made me switch my vote away from the Liberals for the very first time in my life (other things too, but this was the final straw)

We already know about this Garth to be big polluter in his “Mexeders”.
If this guy is personally environmentally irresponsible why we have to trust on him at federal level of clean environment?
