From Derry & Fourth Line to Hurontario and 401, leaving at bout 7:10 or 8:00:

Through Derry Rd 30 to 40 min (smooth trafic)
Through 401 20 to 60 min (very fast then stop and go then very fast again ...)

I prefer Derry in the morning and 401 to return in the afternoon (4:00 to 4:30 PM)

maybe we should consider "Car-Pooling" - Milton to Downtown...
We commute from 4thline to Sherborne.......

It may just happen that with all these long commutes that more business will start up closer to home. Driving over 1 hour each way is just crazy!

I used to take the GO a few years ago when I worked downtown.. it was the most relaxing part of the day.. got to sit for 25 minutes reading the newspaper on the way in, and a book on the way out.

I understand that the drive is crazy but again we all have to keep our jobs till we find something closeby in Milton :)
Hope something comes up in our Milton Business Centre so we don't have to commute far away....

The other day we drove from downtown ( work spot) to the design centre and found the drive much faster from Gardiner to QEW. Has anyone used this route to reach our future home HW - Milton :) from:
Gardiner to QEW exit Trafalger north then west of Britannia and up 4th line.... I think its faster than Gardiner to 427 and all the painful 401 :(
Any comments?

Hi Trini,

If you do opt to come in to HTV from the southeast end (QEW rather than 401), a better route is to exit Ford Drive North rather than Trafalgar North. Head north on Ford (becomes 9th line) to Dundas. West on Dundas to Trafalgar and then carry on with your original route from there.

You'll not only avoid many traffic lights this way, it's also fewer km's. Some continue up 9th line past Dundas though I'm not a fan.

There are other variations on this same line of travel that use the 403 and/or southern stretch of the 407 but the one above is preferable over taking Trafalgar right from the QEW.

Hope it Helps
Mark

I don't do that daily, but in the event of cooming from downtown Toronto to HV at rus hour I take Gardiner/427/407/Derry.

It is worth the few extra bucks, especially if you have a transponder.

As an alternative, take gardiner/427/401/410/Derry. the bottleneck on 401 is 410 exit to Hurontario exit (collectors end).

The Milton GO line sucks - to put it bluntly.
The trains/buses run sporadically and its really expensive.
From Milton to Union and vice versa - it is a 55 minute train trip - I don't even want to know how long the bus would take.

It's almost faster to drive - even with traffic.

I think people were saying during rush hour traffic, it's about an hour & 15 minute drive from Union station to HTV ?? So it still sounds like it would make sense to take the GO train if you work right downtown. That's what my wife Nicole is planning on doing to commute to work.

I work close to 407 & Leslie myself, so will be taking 401/407 every day (45 minute commute during rush hour).

Friend of mine works at the TD tower downtown. She takes Go train, 283$ for her pass a month, take 55 mins. She hates it. AND even once woke up in the train yard as she had fallen asleep on the train and due to how small the station is, the trains do not get checked. They are just moved into the yard every night. She woke up at about 9 or later and had to get off the train and walk through the yard to find her husband to come and get her.
Although Funny now.. she was not too pleased back then!

I think your friend is getting ripped off. I've been paying $230 a month to go from Milton to Union Station and it just recently went up to $235...not sure why she is paying so much more - she wouldn't have to take the subway up from Union Station to the TD tower...

I would definitely recommend the Go Train.
Oakville Go station is an even better option. They have a bunch of express trains that leave all the time that take less than 1/2 an hour to get downtown. If you zip down the 4th line to Britannia, take it over to Trafalgar and then down you can be at the Oakville Go in under 15 minutes. Then it's a half hour train ride downtown. On the way home there's a 5:02 express & a 5:19pm express from Union that gets you into Oakville @ 5:30 & 5:45 respectively from there it's a 15 min drive to HV.
Much better than taking the 5:10 Milton line and spending 55 min on the train and getting home @ 6:15. I work @ Yonge & Bloor and will be goin the Oakville route. Much more flexible. I would rather spend 1/2 hour on the train & 15 min in the car than 55 min on the train. Even from the Milton Go when it's busy it will take another 5-10 min to drive to HV.
Until the Milton line improves in my opinion Oakville is a much better option.

I had never taken the Go train before but I started on a new project at Bay and King downtown. I take the Go everyday and I think it's so much better then driving. With my line of work I go on projects all over and used to drive but I'd find myself getting really stressed and aggravated driving in rush hour traffic for over 1.5 hours each way in morning and night. Now the Go train is exactly 6 minutes from my house in HVT. I get up go to the train in the morning after getting ready, hop on the train and read the paper and then listen to my ipod. Get downtown after a 52 minute ride and walk 5 minutes to work. I feel so much more relaxed when I get to work and when I get home. The train gives me the time to unwind and relax and think about other things then the person who just cut me off :) I would highly recommend the train to anyone who works downtown and gets stressed / raged by driving there every day.

Well, as much as I don't prefer public transportation, if I am to work downtown, GO will be my transportation, euither from Milton or Oakville.

But downtown Toronto, or Toronto in general (excluding some west end areas) will be my last choise for a place to work. Already refused 2 downtown positions, good thing I could afford to do so.

Currently, if I have to go downtown now during the day, I would take Derry/401/427 to Kipling station and use the subway. On the way back I would take 427/407/Derry.

Lorraine,

A 10 ride pass from Oakville is $51.
I'm not sure what the monthly pass is.
