Into Toronto, not quite to downtown though. I have a 7am start so I miss the heavy morning traffic, it's pretty sweet actually. I can get to Jane and Eglinton in about 35 minutes.

Also does anyone here commute to anywhere near Dixi and Matheson? Was wondering for my wife if it would be worth taking 407 to Dixi and then South to Matheson or just put up with the 401? Any input would be great!!

Not at all. I used to commute to that area. My route used to be Brittania east to Hwy 10, and then get on the 401 from there. If you leave the house before 7am using this route, it's pretty fast, about 30 minutes.

You did not add, a work at home option.

I commute to my office upstairs.

I commute to Mississauga and my fiance takes the GO Train to Bay St. downtown TO.

Neither of us had any issues with our commute since moving to milton.

Other then dodging cars of the idiots on my street that park their vehicles overhanging both the sidewalk and onto the street (ie. parking on the ashphalt apron, between sidewalk and the road).

Hopefully Milton parking enforcement will "motivate" them to move there cars elsewhere!

Only 5% within Milton so far seems odd. Some of those would be at home offices.

I work at Finch and Weston. The 407 is the best bet! As for start times; I leave the house at 7 (drop my son at daycare) and end up at my office around 7:45 most days. The earlier you start, the less traffic you'll have to deal with... the 401 still wont be an option though, not unless you leave the house around 6.

Good luck :)

I'd take the 407 if there was no concern with cost. Getting all the way there on the 401 would be madness. Then again, some people enjoy waiting in traffic.

Negotiate a work from home day if possible, you'll treasure those extra hours!

I work a 9 hour day instead of 8 and get every second Friday off in return =)

Cost is kinda a factor as the 407 monthly would be 220 - 250 dollars. I'm thinking maybe of doing half half? Use the 407 to get past Mississauga then cut down to the 401. Knowing me though I'll just say screw it and pay the 250 a month heh

YUP, you'll say "screw it" alright! The 401 in Mississauga is brutal, and it only gets worse the further east you travel. I have tried almost every combination possible! I have found taking Steeles across to Mississauga Rd. saves a bit of money. Get on and off the 407 there! The jog across Steeles doesnt actually take that long, and the couple bucks you save really adds up at the end of the month. But thats just my route... does anyone have any other suggestions?

Aside from papabear, is there anyone who stoically commutes daily to the downtown TO core and specifically refuse to take the GO Train? If so, what time do you leave for work and from work, and what routes are best aside from 401-427-Gardiner to get downtown? I know since a lot of the HVE phases have been completed since this thread was last active, it has been much harder getting on to the highway.

I go the EX. Gave up on the 401 long ago, now 25 and QEW.
Unfortunately the GO is useless to get there since the trains are on the wrong line for the EX stop.

Really, the QEW is faster than 401 - 427 even if you leave say before 7am?

I work in outside sales so some days I can be as far as Ajax/Pickering or I can be as close as Milton or as some others have said ... working from home...like today. :)

Yes...be jealous.

My wife works by the airport and she left shortly after 9am today and go to work at 1030 ... nice commute eh?
