Thanks to Greg for this:

1. Clipboard and pencil(s) more than one is good… they can break
2. Your base plans
3. Structural upgrade information
4. Kitchen layout plans
5. Flashlight: to look into dark spaces and even to help focus in brighter spaces)
6. Tape measure: always handy
7. Level (a good torpedo level is fine)
8. A couple marbles (hand alternative to a level to check counters, floors)
9. An empty 2L pop bottle, 2L water bottle, or really large mug (lets check garage floor slope and basement floor slope near the drain.
10. Electrical tester (purchase @Canadian Tire, Home Depot, Rona, any hardware store). The red tester has a GFI trip button in it (to test the GFI plugs near your sinks).
11. Digital Camera: Record any items in question that you are reporting to Mattamy.
12. An extra body. My WIFE

Additional items.

13. Ladder to check out the attic
14. Trouble light.
15. Garden hose
16. Whatever else I piled up in my car and forgot to mention
17. Radio

I was planning on bringing my own wife. But if she can't make it, sure I'll take yours.

What is trouble light? PDI is tomorrow
i think the word is "treble" light isn't it? at any rate it's a light on the end of an extension cord good to hang or use for home improvement situations.

I always pronounced it as Trouble Light. Because I use it only when I am in trouble...car troubles etc

Radio to check plugs.

Check to see if your receptical in the ceiling of the porch works as well.

Didn't get to use my ladder to go in the attic, because they don't do PDI for that. But you can bet I will be in there after I get the keys.

I also will be checking the top of my roof. I caught one bad shingle from the front windows, so where there is one, there should be more.

The most useful items I used were.

upgrade list, level, measuring tape, voltage tester, eyes & fingers.

Just make sure there is a lot of hands on, go into everything, cabinets, closets, open & close doors, test gfi's, play with faucets, showers, plugs etc, jump up and down on your carpet to check for squeeks.

I even found items after I went back for a quick second pass.

Sometimes I'd say, hey this is nice and then see something wrong. doh.

This is what we are missing:

* all hardware for our cabinet doors (ALL)
* No Corian counter top in the kitchen nor
americast undermounted sink. (will be in on friday)

Mattamy put in a temporary sink and faucet in the kitchen
until Friday.

We got our keys at 4:30!!!
and a $20.00 portebello coupons

Tim stayed there last night doing things around the house
like pulling the carpet off the 2 main room downstairs

We have our phone line working.

And a constant flow of people coming and going to fix things up!

Can wait to move-in officially!

Today is our PDI... :)
For those of you who have done their PDI..... Was the builder present for the PDI? We have either Stephanie or Roland for our PDI. We definitely prefer our builder to be present....

We had Roland for ours. The PDI is not done by the builder, it is handled by the warranty office.

Cool thanks.....

Our PDI was great and Roland was extremely helpful and patient. One thing that surprises me when he said that Mattamy will come back after a year to patch up nail pops and paint, if there is more than 20 nail pops on one side of wall then they will patch up and repaint the whole wall- now this is great news because at our old Mattamy house they just banged the nail pops in and left and we were left to patch up and paint.....
Today we get our keys... can't wait :)

Here is a couple extra items that you may want to bring to your PDI.

1) A hand mirror, to look behind and under things.

2) A pair of slippers are handy for the basement as most people remove their shoes at the door.

As well, before your PDI, review the Tarion Construction Performance Guidelines for the numerous items that need to be identified during this inspection.
