How come there are no cross walks on Thompson road South of Derry (specifically Hepburn and Thompson)? There are new streets now, and it gets really difficult to cross the road with bad winter this year. Does someone know if they are planning to put crosswalks or will we have to cross the road on our own praying to God that no one hits us? Regards, -Riaz |

I agree Jasmin. The crossing is very serious. It is really unfortunate that in order for government to act (be it fed, prov, or municipal), they need some sort of reasoning behind it. Unless there are few accidents, they won't budge on it. Which is why, sometimes I wonder, why can't the government be proactive? Why do they have to be reactive all the time? I will be writing a letter to our ward councilor, and would encourage all the HV/HVE residents to write a letter to the councilor as well, so that he sees the need for it, and acts on it quickly. What amazes me is how a large plaza can be situated there, within walking distance of hundreds of homes, with no sidewalk between it and Kenedy circle on the east side of Thompson, and have no crosswalk, lights, etc. that would allow safe pedestrian crossing. And brace yourselves for the rest of this thread when someone rants about "another cross walk, or light will add a whole 2 minutes to my commute....." Get over it....there should be a light there, and you should see some of these morons who fly through that are towards Brittania at WELL over 100 ....if you don't believe me.....stop by some time and have a look..... |

Don't worry, I'm sure there will be lights coming down there somewhere (Hepburn, Kennedy, LSL)...They just ran out of stock while they were finishing the North end of Thompson... |

There is a Milton transit bus stop at Hepburn and Thompson. When someone gets off the bus, how do you expect him/her to cross the road without a cross walk or any walkaway path avoiding getting hit by a fast paced car? It's too dangerous! If it adds 2 mins to someone's commute or cost the city $100k (out of my tax dollars, not from city's own pockets), so be it, but there should be something done about it, because IMHO, a life is much much more important than $100k and 2 mins of someone's commute! Speeding anywhere in Milton is definitely an issue. I limit myself usually to absolutely no more than 10K over, and that's mainly on Derry and get cars passing me doing 90-100 in the posted 60Km. Tim Fawkin Speeders!! The last snowfall we had, I didn't see him speeding but I did see his silver suzuki sidecrap on someones front lawn sitting on top of a snowbank. He must of been flying around the corner at Bennett and Cooper, the bend near the park. Luckily the owner wasn't shovelling his driveway or else he would of been done. I agree, they should have a walkway on Thompson near the mall. |

Hi Rino and other posters The issue of traffic lights and crosswalks will be dealt with at the February 9th Community Services Meeting at the Town Hall (check milton.ca for upcoming reports). The Traffic Manager has been reviewing the counts for the various intersections and will be making recommendations for this year's construction either at Kennedy Circle, Hepburn or Clark Blvd. for the most appropriate location for traffic lights and crosswalks. As the Coates Crossing area is completed the Town will be working out the signalization of Thompson road for the best arrangements for drivers, transit and pedestrians. Also the Town has accelerated the design and construction of the Louis St. Laurent bridge over the 16 mile creek to connect with Highway #25 later this year or early 2010 depending on construction timing. Will keep everyone posted as soon as the work is approved by Council. Colin Best Local & regional councillor Milton/Halton colinbest.ca |

Thanks for the update, Colin. Just one note/request... Since I believe the plan is for LSL to eventually be a primary east-west corrider with 2 lanes in both directions, there will no doubt be a need to have a full intersection with lights at Thompson. As such, can you please request that they keep the future of LSL in mind during the meeting on the 9th when they review the traffic counts from Kennedy/Hepburn/Clark? While the changes to the North end of Thompson has been a great improvement, I'm still quite often stuck at multiple lights in a row and I'd hate to see the same thing happen to the South end with back to back to back lights. |

Hope he was fined for speeding, there is no way you could launch a vehicle that size that far up a snowback going the speed limit, let alone driving to the conditions! |

Hi Rino and other posters I raised the issue of crosswalks and traffic lights on Thompson between Louis St. Laurent Blvd and Clark tonight at the Community Services committee meeting. Paul Cripps the Town Engineering Director stated that the engineering staff is doing another count of the area this spring for the intersection with the most potential of either crosswalks or complete traffic light system. Based on last years count Hepburn Road is the most likely location as it just missed the numbers warrant last year. There is funds budgeted in the 2009 budget for a crosswalk or traffic light system in the area, as well as the Louis St. Laurent Blvd. and Thompson traffic lights when the connection is build west to Highway #25 later this year. Will keep everyone informed on both these projects as it will be an active construction year between new schools, roads and retail projects in the area.
