Mine is an instant hot water on demand tank, it's a "Quietside" unit, it runs off gas. There is also a very small tank reservoir where hot water collects which is used to heat your home (I was told). The upside is that you don't run out of hot water, the downside is that the hot water is designed to flow at a certain rate of pressure, and if you exceed that pressure (like having a tap on full blast in a tub to fill it ), you'll get nothing but cold after a bit because the heater can't keep up with the rate of flowthrough. The showers in the stall type units are regulated (you can set the temperature but not the water flow rate), so you don't run out of hot water in the shower. We finally figured out that we had to fill our bathtub at about half-pressure from the tap in order to keep the hot water flowing, and it takes a lot longer to fill a tub that way than it would otherwise. Not a huge deal, but definitely something we didn't realize when we first moved in. |

Tim We have a tankless but we bought & installed it ourselves, not through the builder & works perfectly. I do see a diff. in our gas usage from the reg. tank. We never run out of hot water & never experienced any problems. We have this unit www.tanklesswaterheaters.ca/ph28rdv.html |
