Post subject:  Cogeco internet question

Moving into a brand new house in 2 weeks. Just wondering if anyone can tell me if Cogeco cable is connected and switched on to my Mattamy house by default when the house is wired up?? The last time I moved with Cogeco all I had to do was plug my Cogeco modem from Burlington into the cable outlet in my new house in Milton and it worked just fine. Didnt even have to call them and tell them I was moving until after. That way I avoided any of the completely bogus hookup charges and setup fees. I am finding out once again that all the utility services seem to love to charge those ludicrous fees that you cant avoid. Can anyone confirm if the Cable is turned on in new houses by default?

Thanks!

A newly built house will not have any of the services connected.

You will need to contact them to physically get the cable service to your house and install the equipment you need.

How do you find out if your area qualifies for the 3 months offer?

Thanks for all the replies guys. A couple of questions
1. You cannot get 3 months free if you are already a subscriber correct?
2. what exactly is offered as free? I only get internet from them, would I have to sign on to a contract for tv as well?

I work for Cogeco and sitting in an IT department and still without internet in my new home for the last 4 weeks....I just queried in the database and my address is till not in our systems yet , I heard that they enter the address in the system once they physically setup the cable box ready to serve...

Ok Guys I called Cogeco today and yes its true the 3mths free goes to everyone that bought a new home. Doesnt matter if you are already a subscriber. The only catch is that you must sign on for 2 services to get the 3 mths free. The good part of that is that you can cancel the service you dont want ( in my case the TV) after 3 months and you are not locked in. So thanks for the heads up!! and yes that is "better than a kick in the teeth"!!

Just an FYI.

If you want the Cogeco 3 month free deal (or for them to match whatever Bell is giving) you can call Alaina at 905-333-5343 or email her at Alaina.Langdon@cogeco.com

She'll match Bell's pkg for Mattamy, and on the other side of Derry for all the builders there too. Sometimes the regular phone people when you call their main number can't match Bell, but she is able to do it for you.

Tanya, what did she mean by only for new homebuyers in Cogeco's builder footprint?

They were able to do it for me on the North side of Derry.

Sorry for the misinformation guys if they're not able to do it on the other side of Derry. I got the impression they would do it for any new homebuyer.

I had called Cogecos regular customer number and gotten my service connected yesterday. I didn't know about the builders special, it was the installer who mentioned it to me.
So I came here and searched around, found this thread, and the number posted by (I think) Emsmom. Sorry, short term memory issues. ;)

Anyway, I called this other number explained that I had just had my service connected and that I had called the regular customer service number. After verifying the address they confirmed that I qualified for the three months and they're removing the installation charge, and giving me my services for free for the 3 months.
The only items not free are The Movie Network, or our HD PVR. The Movie Network is the full price, but the PVR is reduced to 5.99/month instead of 16.99.

I also asked about the Highspeed Ultimate 30 and all he could tell me was that it was coming soon.
