I went to the garden place at Brittania and Trafalgar. They are stocking herbicides/pesticides until the 22nd ban takes effect.
I grabed enough stuff to last me years.

I used something called grub out. It kills all grubs and other insects that kill your grass. Then I fertilized it. Result.... nice green grass. |

This what i do... and I have the best lawn on the street!!!! Early Spring Step One WAIT! Your lawn will be frozen hard, then too soft to walk on, and then it firms up. When it's ready to be walk on, then move to second step.. I think it will be another week possibly 2 till that happens. Step two Rake off the dead grass, don't rake to hard just enough to take the brown grass off. Step three Since you and i have a "postage stamp" lawn. I use my garden claw to aerate my lawn, if you don't have one... saw them for sale at home depot for $20. I don't do it everywhere on the lawn, just higher traffic areas. Step four Lay down a slow release fertilizer, use a spreader and don't use a lot! now wait till late spring!! Late Spring Step one Weed your lawn!!!! Step two Laying down a little soil will help your grass grow. The type of soil you will be laying depends how you mow; if you rake up your grass clippings or leave them on your lawn after you mow. If you rake your grass you will need to lay down a soil with nitrogen. If you leave your clipping on your lawn you can use a soil with little or no nitrogen in it. If you are going to skip laying down soil just fertilizer the lawn. Step three My lawn is also in shade too. I picked up a lawn seed specially made for being the shade. I got it on sale at Walmart. Lay the seed down by hand, speading evenly and in one direction. After lay it down walk over the seed and soil a little to pacl it in a little. For larger lawns, use a roller. Summer!!! Step one Mow your lawn.. I like to keep my grass a little long. I find with a small lawn, longer grass makes the lawn look thicker and healthily. Step two Water your grass! But not to much... you can over water your lawn and it won't grow. Water in the morning or at night, watering during the day can damage your grass!!! Step three I also like to fertilize my lawn a few times in the summer. But do it when it going to be cool for a few days. And you don't need to water your lawn after you fertilize. Fall You can follow the summer step for as long as the weather is good. Just fertilize before the first freeze! There you go!!!! |

I also use Miracle Gro. It's magic. Steroid. Magic. I heard the same thing about Miracle Grow. Haven't tried it yet though. We too try not to cut the grass to short and apparently the more you feed the less weeds you'll have. I don't think you'll notice that many weeds in the first couple of years. But Scotts turff builder is a good fertilizer. Worked well for our grass. |

Does anyone know if herbicides are still sold in Buffalo, or have they been banned there as well? I need to make a trip. |

You should still be able to get them in Buffalo. The ban starts April 22 and stores will still be able to sell what stock they have. |

I’ll probably call some smaller garden shops to see if they still have stock. If anyone knows anywhere local still selling them, let me know. I know Home Depo pulled them last year as soon as the ban was announced and just let their stocks run out. I’m assuming everyone did the same, but if I can save a trip to Buffalo that would be great. |

Haven't check Terra yet ... will tomorrow. The usual suspects HD, Cdn Tire and Home Hardware were out of most of them. Did see some Grub Out at HH. Good luck ! FYI - I have been told that round up will still be available in the diluted form the concentrate can no longer be sold after April 22. Good hunting. |

What product or action do you recommend in my continued fight with dandelions that keep popping up overnight? I've fertilized with CIL Golfgreen using my Scott's winding spreader, and to no avail. I got one of those dandelion puller tools that are really cool, but it seems like I have to be massacring the dandelions every other day. I will be spraying Grub-Out this evening when I get home from work. Thx in advance. |

dandelions are really hard to control. But since are only around for 2-3 weeks I don't worry about them too much. I normally just pull the weeds out with an old screwdriver. Also, we can not do much about them when 1/2 of HV doesn't pull them out and they spread like wild fire |
