Post subject:  Hot Water Heater settings

I noticed after we moved in that I could not fill my large ensuite tube full of water that was steaming hot. I increased the temperature in small increments every day and I am now at the hottest setting. Has anyone else done this?

At the standard setting you could put you hand under the tap and not get burned.

Guess I won't be getting legionarres (SP) disease

I think the water needs to be over 50 degrees to prevent legionaires and other bacterial diseases.

You paid enough for the unit, I would call them to send a technician over.

since i have 2 little boys that like to crank the handle to "get more water" during their baths, i was happy with the setting... but now you've got me worried about legionaire's!!! maybe i should check the temp..

I'm confused with this thread....I'm having the same problem, that I can't fill my ensuite tub up with the water at a decent temperature, does turning up the temperature on your water heater help give you MORE hot water, or does it just make the same amount warmer???

Help! I've been trying to figure this out for 4yrs now!!

If I understand it correctly, the adjustment only increases the water temp. The tank itself is a certain gallon size and cannot be increased. The only downside to cranking up the temp is gas consumpsion.

that's something else I don't understand...it takes A LOT to run out of hot water at my house....you can take 2 or 3 long hot showers to run the tank, but I can't fill my tub.....just odd.

If it is a problem with the amount of hot water, wouldn't Mattamy, knowing that I paid a lot of money to upgrade to this lovely jet tub (that I can't really use) put in a larger rental for my water heater???

Is anyone else having this problem with their ensuite tub??

Hi Jessica,

When I spoke with an Ozzie a few months back I was told very clearly "the standard HWT provided through Mattamy will not be sufficient to fill those honking big tubs you Miltonites are getting". Or something to that effect.

Whether or not this is actually the case I can't say for sure, however you're situation may be the puding that holds the proof.

ok....ummmmmm ME!!!!!!!

ours isn't even the 6' version I don't believe...I think it's 5'......but still......I'm starting to get a complex about this if no one is having this problem......

Mark..."you Miltonites and your tubs???" I bet you've got one!!! haha

Jessica :)

Not that I ever have time to relax in the freaking thing, but you know, it would calm me even a little to know that I had the option!!! haha

I don't know....my hot water tank is with Union Energy....This oz thing is a new one that I've learnt about on here.....

Do you want to know something else wierd in my house on this?? In my main floor powder room, when you are using the sink to wash your hands, you can't really turn on the hot water, otherwise even I burn myself, that's how hot the water comes through that fixture, but in the kitchen sink, which is maybe 10' away, I don't have that problem.....

I think my house is haunted by the hot water gremlins!!

is there a guage that I can check to see if I am at my max temperature?? Sorry for hijacking this thread with my tub problem by the way!!!

Is anyone familiar with the union energy water tanks that they can direct me where to look?? I just ventured down and I couldn't see anything off-hand.....

The one I have is just a dial for temperature select, near the bottom of the heater.

I wonder if Oz cannot meet the minimum requirements of a hot water tank if their contract would be null and void? Might be a good way to get out of the contract???
