We also bought a central vac from costco to install ourselves. There were issues with our rough in as well. The one upstairs was find but the main floor one just went into the basement and did not go anywhere near the garage. We ended up just putting in a new outlet ourselves for the main floor as it was much easier to do this than to fish the tubing and wires around from where Mattamy had installed it out to the garage (which also would have needed to included putting a hole through the cement blocks along the bottom of the garage wall). We just took the original one out and patched up the hole in the wall.

DK,

don't cut the wire but you can slive the plastic inbetween them and strip the plastic away. You then can use one wire on one screw and the other on the other screw,

Crash, Mattamy terminates all Central vac to the basement unless you pay for the garage termination which includes a power outlet right next to where the piping enters the garage.

I would suggest for people that do not have complete rough in to make sure when you are buying centra vac to buy ones with pipes since you will need those.

You don't need to purchase a vac with pipes included in the kit. The pipe and fittings are available at any vacuum store and Home Depot / Rona.

Also any professional installer you hire will have all the parts needed to get it done right.

Regarding hidden pipes in the basement.. they end up where they are because that was the easiest place to put them. In some cases I have seen them end up inside a cold-air return, which is against firecode since the pipe is not rated for plenum space.

If you need your vac installed, please let me know.

Thanks.
