We just closed recently and went with Dean Glinos from Anderson Sinclair LLP. They are very reasonably priced and excellent to deal with. 905-821-8522

We are currently closing on a home with this lawyer. My experience so far has been nothing but a hassle. I find that he takes several days to get back to you after email or phone messages. Friends of ours have used his service and his office appearantly is very disorganized. I have not met the man my self but would definately not use his services again. I feel as he has too much on his hands. 90% of the time he doesnt even have a secretary and when she does answer the phone she is of no help whatsoever. I am rather close to closing and dont need the additional hassle of finding someone else but would definately not recommend him. During this whole process I have learned not to use a lawyer that is recommended by the builder as I feel he has sided with Mattamy with many of my questions and concerns. I personally think he is getting a lot of kickbacks from Mattamy and not doing his job the way he should. But this is just my opinion. Good Luck

You should try being on the otherside of one of his deals...
DISASTER everytime

Not sure I follow you, who do you mean by "otherside"?

im going to guess jen means a seller is the otherside, seeing as you would be on the buyers side of the deal

Thanks for your opinon... in the 10+ years I have been in the business I have worked for many different people and not once on this forum have I ever indicated a particular preference over one or the other nor have I ever indicated where I work. I know most of the lawyers in town and if you look at previous posts of people looking for lawyers or questioning who knows real estate best -- I have mentioned that all the lawyers in town are great to deal with and all competent and familiar with Mattamy Agreements.

My personal experience with the firm is that they are very difficult to deal with, when trying to complete a transaction, and Im entitled to voice that experience just as you are that you have enjoyed your experience.

abigale - LOL you are getting this wound up over your lawyer ??? Maybe you have a little too much time on your hands!! This is a public forum - where ppl are entitled to speak their opinions... guess maybe since you just joined you haven't gotten a hang of things yet... you will no worries..

ASAP!!!! we got our lawyer right after signing the purchase agreement, this allowed him to make changes and cap fees in the purchase agreement as you only have like 5 or 10 days after signing to get it reviewed

Our sales agreement has been taken care of a couple months back. I am looking to get a lawyer for closing, just wondering at this point when I should get one. I close in April 2010.

Thanks.

We used James Evans as our lawyer. He was great and provided detailed explanations of the entire contract. James explained to us in plain English all the clauses and what is acceptable and unacceptable. He returned his voicemails and emails promptly as he knew that we had a 5 day limit to accept or reject the Mattamy contract. Definitely a great lawyer to work with, especially if you're new to all this. His number is 905-599-6482 or email at jevans10@cogeco.ca.

Good luck with your lawyer searches!!

We used Michael Morgan - and I highly recommend him.
He was very professional and extremely helpful. If we had any questions or concerns leading up the closing, he replied to my emails quickly. Prices were reasonable... yes, you could find someone cheaper. But, you pay for what you get and I'm saying this from past experience. I used another lawyer in Milton for my previous closing, and it was a horrible experience. They were rude, rushed and overall unhelpful, not to mention they lied about a few things, which I found odd because there was no reason for it. If you want more information, just PM me.

We used Michael Morgan, he is very nice and helpful the other end his secretaries are very rude, not co-operative, she sent me the wrong closing amount, then I called her about wrong figure she said to me no my figure is correct and then I sent email with prove document she didn't say sorry to me. Michael if you reading this forum please teach your secretaries how to help/talk with people because so many complains about your secretaries.

Hi,
We have used the services of Roman Sahaydakivshy and found him very good. He did alot of ammendments on our agreement and saved us $8K as we capped the municipal tax section.

I have always used Roman for my lawyer and I think he's fantastic!!! I'm shocked to hear anything bad said.

He was definitely busy, but always returned my calls. He is so personable and friendly, which is difficult to find in a lawyer. I want to feel like I can ask any questions, and he is very approachable that way. I've had a lawyer before that was so stern that I felt uncomfortable to ask questions.

Anyone who used Roman was capped off for the levies!!!
