Hello,

This is probably a dumb question... :(

If I don't have my heater on at the moment should I shut the furnace switch of from the basment or just leave it on at all times?

Hi Ecuador
Leave the switch in the basement on. You should only need to use that when you want to shut everything down so that you can easily change your furnace filter.
Control your furnace and A/C from your thermostat switches at all other times.

I never shut of the switch to off when I change the filter? Is this bad?

Don't worry about it. On some furnaces it's hard to do with the furnace on.

I'm sorry to butt in, but there is no need at all to shut off the main power switch to any furnace when changing the filter. You allways do that at the thermostat.

The main shut-off in the basement is only in case of an emergency or if the system needs service. Otherwise, it should always be left ON.

Of course either way will work Andy. I use the switch in the basement simply because that's where I usually am when I notice the spare filters and remember it's time to change it. :lol:
