Post subject:  ESA Inspection?

This morning a guy came to our door and said he is from ESA and wants to inspect the electrical wiring of our house. My mom told him to come back later as I wasn't home. So he left a notice saying to call the number to schedule the inspection.

Is this normal to have ESA do the inspection in a new home? Shouldn't this be done while the house was being constructed? Is the guy authentic (I mean did he approach any other home owner in the neighbourhood)? We are in Phase 15C. Will it cost me anything to have the inspection done?

Any info on this would be greatly appreciated.

ESA is generally requested by your AC contractor if you purchased AC aftermarket. If you purchased the AC from Mattamy then probably Mattamy requested the ESA for you most likely.

Lucky your ESA guy wanna come inside to inspect if everything is Ok. I paid 75$ extra to my AC contractor to have the ESA done after the installation and they never showed up. Yesterday I follow up with ESA and they advised me the inspector passed it as everything was looking good from outside. What a scam...

Hmmm,

unless this inspector looked at the main panel to check the breaker then your AC was not inspected. In fact, to do the job properly, he should look inside the panel. You should ask for your money back. All the outdoor inspection does is tell you what to look for inside at the panel.

Recently I was at a home when the ESA guy showed up. He asked to come into the home and check the main panel after he looked at the AC unit outside.

The AC unit outside always shows what breaker size is required, so he checked that, then, in the home he looked at the main panel, said everything was OK and left.

The problem is that most sloppy or poor wiring that is typical of AC installers is actually inside the panel. To see it, the cover must be removed. I'm not sure why the people with authority, that are there to protect us, are so lax in their attitude and work.

It should not cost you anything, and the inspection should only be a few minutes!

Thanks for the responses.

I talked to the inspector who should up on my door, and he said it will be a 10min inspection, which was left over from my PDI as it fell through cracks at the time.

He will just come in and do the last check to sign-off. It won't cost me anything as Mattamy already paid for it.

Thanks again to all who responded.
