Post subject:  LF: King size mattress...one that isn't a million dollars!
Looking for a decently priced king mattress. We arent' boxspring people so would that affect the price greatly?? Can anyone here recommend a good place with good prices? Or at least companies that will negotiate?

We shopped around and found a very good king size mattress at a decent price through Sleep Country Canada here in Milton (on Maple).

Mattress pricing has come down over the years. We paid less for our amazing king size mattress than we did for our queen mattress 8 years ago.

Their service was also very good...I would highly recommend them.

We also purchased our headboard and frame through them...they were much cheaper compared to other places :)

Other than low cost and king size what are you looking for in your mattress? When you consider that you will spend maybe 25% - 30% of your life lying on your mattress spending say even a $1000 on a mattress that will last 10 to 20 years seems pretty reasonable. At 10 years of use that's just $100 per year, less than $10 per month. There are many factors to consider when buying, spring type (individule coil or continuous), number of coils (more means better support), topping (foam, memory or latex or no foam), firm or plush ... I recommend you try out different mattresses and choose one that is confortable for you. Also look for a place with a comfort guarantee so that if after trying your mattress at home for a few weeks you find it less comfortable than you thought, you can exchange it. I have 5 different display mattresses at the store and can order any that Sears carries.

When you consider that a mattress is nothing but some metal coils, wrapped in cloth and foam padding, it’s a total rip-off. It probably costs $100 bucks to manufacture and ship the thing to the store. What’s also a rip-off is how the mattress companies will relabel the same mattress with different model names for different retailers. This makes it impossible to price compare, and allows retailers to offer “price guarantees”, knowing that nobody else will carry the same named mattress.

You know what...you're right! It boils me to the core when i see mattress prices. I don't care how much of my life I spend on one, it's a necessity of life and I feel that $1500-2000 is a rip. My cousin spent $2000 for Sealy last year and it's sinking on her side beyond belief (130 pound girl who sleeps 7 hrs a night) Rip off.

Didn't mean to offend with my post suggesting that given the use/life most people get out of a mattress that they weren't really all that expensive. Perhaps given the distain I sense you (and bremer) seem to have for the mattress industry maybe this is what you (and he) are looking for in a cheap mattress? Available in all sizes including king from several area farmers. Just make sure you get straw and not hay (straw is bedding and hay is food). :wink:

The cheapest place for New regular mattress is Leon's, but if you want a discounted mattress there is a Kingsdown Warehouse in Burlington that sells the mattress at very good prices for Kingsdown. If you want a very cheap mattress you can always pick one up at Ikea.

In my opinion your best place for a low priced mattress is to shop at the Leons Scratch and Dent. You will get a regular priced mattress for less then 1/2 price. I used to sell these mattress all the time they are a exceptional value for the price.
