We just rescued a very young Siberian Husky puppy. He is estimated to be 6 1/2 to 7 1/2 weeks old. We know this is too young but he was found all by his loneseome without mom or littermates. When we got him the other night he was in good spirits and a little bit rough. He is now thriving, the only problem we have is that we have been advised by our vet to get him around puppies similar in age so that he can learn doggy cues- this is an important age where they learn body language from eachother. He has been vaccinated and dewormed and been given a clean bill of health. We have a 7 month old puppy but she is too old for our pup to learn from her. Just wondering if anyone out there would be willing to arrange a play date with us, we'll do all the work and work within whichever parameters. We just want to give this little guy everything he needs to be successsful in life. Much Appreciated as we love this little guy. (We haven't figured out his name quite yet.) |

Might be worth while to search out any breeders in the area, since as you said, most puppies that age aren't usually taken from their mothers. If I knew of any I would suggest some, but all I know is that there are no breeders of the type of dog we are looking at getting

I sent you a pm. But I also thought of another thing. Puppy obedience classes will be chock full of puppies. You might want to try there. |

I've been around dogs all of my life, and when we decided to get a puppy this summer I did some research....We got a yellow lab in the summer I found a few things.... A lot of puppies are now leaving breeders between 6-7 weeks of age now...not sure why....just what I found out. This was from some highly reputed breeders as well.... I also found out that most puppy schools won't "accept" or "recommend you start" puppy school until they are at least 12-13 weeks of age as they just aren't ready for it. (I didn't know this as well!) My "pup" is now just over 7 months and ironically has just been dropped off at the vet this am to get "snipped" lol so he's a little old for your guy as well. You may find that he will be fine with the company of your older dog (even if only 6-7 months!) and with you teaching him just the basic commands and house training. Thanks everyone, Dog parks and classes don't accept puppies until they are 4 months old after they get their rabies shots. It's really the body language cues that we can't teach him, the parlour tricks and the rest we can teach at home. In fact he has been a breeze compared to our 7 month old  ) He has a biting problem- not chewing issue but actual biting which would be from not learning from his littermates what hurts- so my husband and I have started yelping to communicate this. LOL- we must be quite a sight!
He was dewormed yesterday morning and he got his shots that were necessary for his age, he is going back next week for a follow up and his next set of vaccinations. He's also on a special diet supplement to help his tummy and immune system since we don't know at what age he was separated from his mom. Jessica- hope the snipping goes well, we just had our girl fixed before Christmas- it was a rough two weeks of limited exercise. Good luck hope it's not too rough on your little guy. |

There's a puppy kindergarten class at Mccann's that's for pups 10-16 weeks old. http://www.mccanndogs.com/index2.htm I guess that's not going to help so much though. |
