LOL. Try driving in Manhatten for a day! You will come back a different person. The bigger the town gets, the less "neighbourly" we get. Sad, but true...

Hi there,

Just wondering if anyone else has noticed or is annoyed with this. I contacted the town and they said that would hold a traffic count and maybe have more advances. I'm getting so sick of this every single morning...it's outta control!! I wish the police would sit there and ticket the people who are so inconsiderate! I've almost been hit 3 times this week. OH AND the people who drive on the shoulder to cut infront of me that's also really considerate, so much for being neighborly

I agree with you 100%!! I can't even begin to tell you how annoyed I am of this. I thought it was just me! I don't understand how people turning left onto Derry think it's their right of way

No it's not just you...every freaking morning!!! i think they get so pissed waiting to turn left that they just take off...I feel bad for the drivers going east into Milton just before Scott or Savoline...they must go crazy approaching that intersection. They should really remove or block that shoulder part also while they are doing the construction...i find some drivers shoot past you and ride it up and cut ahead....a whole two or three cars lengths i may add....good job see you at the next red light.

^ +1
There are a lot of inconsiderate people out there. No wonder there are a lot of road-rage.

Sometimes I go straight up Scott Blvd, turn right on Main, then right on Bronte or Ontario just to bypass all that headache and get back onto Derry eastbound.

If they blocked that lane (it's not a shoulder, it's an actual lane), then the people turning right onto Derry going east would never get off Scott.

There's only one lane, not two. People turning left from Scott don't wait their turn forcing the people turning right on to Derry to use the other "lane". If there are truly two lanes, wouldn't there be painted lines dividing the two lanes? (This question is not meant to be rude/sarcastic, I'm honestly wondering)

Have to disagree. They would be able to go out when they have the green light since right turn has priority over left turn. This would make them EQUAL to the people heading east on Derry though the intersection. As it stands now, when traffic moves and the green is north-south, the "Scotties" tend to fill up both the shoulder and the main lane. When the green is east-west, the people coming along Derry tend not to jam up the intersection, waiting for the lane to move, but the "Scotties" think that shoulder means "Haha, screw the Derry people who have the green, I see open space, I'm going to fill it then shove into the left hand lane"... which of course prevents any more people from Derry getting across on their green light. Having been shafted by such people many times, I can assure you that (a) for every ONE light the "Scotties" have to wait the people on Derry wind up waiting three or four, and (b) because of it, more and more of us from the west side now cut through the subdivision and turn right at Scott as well.

I think it is telling, too, that when I take Scott now, I will not turn right when the lane is jammed and the north-south light is red. Twice cars from behind have illegally driven around me and into that shoulder, shoving their way over. There is no doubt in my mind that that shoulder is not only made to order for some of the lowest dregs of humanity to get behind a wheel, but as people get madder and madder about the abuse we're going to see some major accidents. A large number of times I've seen people who are heading east on Derry get fed up with the Scotties and accelerate into the right turn lane (that takes you south on Scott) and then just drive right through to the shoulder in retaliation.

It's too bad that it seems like it will take a major accident to make everyone remember how to line up and take turns (guess it's been too long since kindergarten), but the way things are now, and with the non-stop addition of people west of those tracks making it worse and worse over time, I don't doubt it will happen. It's too bad, because the only reason that shoulder is needed is because as well as the people turning right from south of Derry, with no advance green the extra lane is needed or the people turning left from north of Derry would never get out. If they'd put an advance green for those coming from the north and removed the shoulder traffic would probably flow a lot better.

You can disagree all you want, but there is in fact 2 lanes there. Not that you can see the lines with all the salt/dirt/crud on the road.

And if right turners go on the the north/south green, then the lefties will never get out. The wait to turn right onto derry backs up to McDougall at times.

I just called the town and they assured me that there is only 1 lane :)

Then there shouldn't be a yellow sign there showing the right lane ending.

ding ding ding! we have a winner! I avoid that intersection like the plague, but have had to turn left from the north side of Scott on occasion during morning rush hour. If I follwed the "correct way of turning" as per the posters on this thread, I would be waiting until about 2 pm to turn.

Don't worry, this will all be fixed when the road widening and underpass is complete in 2035 :)

There are 2 lanes in the area in question - one just ends shortly after the intersection, as previously noted.

As I've posted previously, the east-west Derry drivers aren't any better. The amount of times I've narrowly avoided accidents because the intersection was blocked by not only the left-hand turn drivers but the east-west Derry drivers is insane. The east-west drivers enter the intersection without it being cleared first, leaving them stuck in the middle of the intersection on the red. All of this causes the back up down the south side of Scott Blvd, causing those of us turning from McDougall and Wise Crossings to have to wait, and then wait again just to be able to get into the appropriate turning lanes at Derry.

The police should most certainly be getting involved giving these drivers who block the intersection tickets.

OK....don't thrash me as I'm not driving that way in rush hour or any other time much to be honest....but from my perspective (and if I'm wrong I'm sorry) I agree with J&K...that there are 2 lanes there...I distinctly remember the right hand from Scott having a small lane there and then they had to merge.

Again I'm not trying to start something...just adding my perspective on why so many people are turning left there without giving right of way to those turning right.

Jessica :)
