This is probably being beaten to death by now, but there needs to be some serious attention to the fact that people continue to drive aggressively within the subdivision.

It's sickening how people are passing me on the wrong side of the road, in the school zone on Scott (north of Derry). The constant riding up my ass and attempting to pass on the inside or outside, whatever is convenient, is getting out of hand.

I can understand if I was doing 5 under the limit, but I'm normally 5 over.

It's usually morning rush hour or evening rush hours. I'm sure I'm not alone.

I'm surprised more people aren't going road rage postal on those assholes. I know I would if I was bigger and stronger. Best you can do it take down their info and report them to that road watch program.

ya, people need to lighten up. I find it hard to read the street signs sometimes so i can imagine with new areas people are driving slow to find out where they are going...

Anyone stuck behind the backhoe at 6:45am on Derry road doing 30K from 5th line to past trafalgar this morning??
It was lovely!

Does savoline have it's final paving coat? i can't remember.

Sometimes the wide roads are confusing because I am not sure if it supposed to be 2 lanes or 4 lanes.

From my understanding Savoline and parts of Scott are 4 lanes. If you can park cars on the left and right side, and 2 cars going down the middle, makes 4 lanes. It's a wide road.

One thing that's bothering me the most about HVE area is people running stop signs coming onto Scott. A woman nearly hit me the other day!

I drive down Scott all the time, often to/from Main, and this has happened to me a grand total of ONE time in the many months of my travels. I see people driving sedately (~50 +/-) down Scott quite consistently.

Do the people who are getting constantly tailgated drive excessively slowly or something? Hint, if you're driving 35 or slower you are probably pissing a lot of other drivers off. Or is this a particular time-of-day thing that I'm just not seeing? (i'm not a heavy rush-hr driver).

I have noticed that it is getting worse... but I have some good news... well maybe depending of course on whether you were the people pulled over, if you were, you probably don't think so.

I have seen more of a police presence on Scott and Savoline lately... I'm assuming because of the school, but it's been nice.

There are far to many people speeding, and running stop signs... I know this sounds like a cliche, but I really think it won't stop until somebody gets hurt... i just hope I'm wrong.

A couple of weeks ago, my neighbour was sitting at a light waiting for it to turn green, and someone coming off of Scott tried to run a light, lost control, and took out the traffic light pole.

The pole fell on my neighbours car. Fortunately she had an SUV so it took the brunt of it, but she could have easily been killed.

This really has to stop.

Thanks RCK10 and other posters for your comments.

Just to let everyone know the town traffic co-ordinator is reviewing the traffic counts along both Scott and Savoline Blvd. and will be reporting to Council with some traffic recommendations later in March including possible crossing guard locations.

Remember Scott and Savoline are two lane traffic streets not four similar to Main St. E. between Bronte and downtown. I have requested staff to paint lines on both streets after the final asphalt layer is done to indicate school zones and cycling lanes similar to Bronte St. S. which will also have the cycling lanes extended south to Derry road after the construction is completed at the Derry Heights area in the spring.

I have also requested that police increase their traffic enforcement in the area with the opening of the two new schools and the Community Policing Committee and fire department are planning on attending the first parent night at both schools later in the spring to inform families about safety issues.

While I agree with you Rick, the only thought I have would be that people be required to put their names on their car, which of course leads to other problems like targetted vandalism etc.

Then again, I'm of the firm belief that we have too many people on the planet, and of course every member of the family has their own car now, clogging up the roads, so personally I think the long term solution is a lower birth & immigration rate resulting in fewer cars, which would let us spread out a bit more again and thus have fewer cars in the same spot riding each other's asses :)

See, I thought about the potential vandalism/harassment too. But would that really be a problem? I mean, targeted vandalism doesn't seem to be a huge problem with people's homes, and it's not difficult to learn where a person lives.

I wasn't thinking so much of targetting a specific individual...as you say, if someone is mad enough at a specific person they'll find them... rather things like cemetary tombstones with ethnic names being destroyed, or neo-nazi's targetting jewish people. That said, maybe there would be less enforcement needed in that vein than with driving enforcement if we eliminated the anonymity of driving... I know it sure ups the level of civility in internet forums :)
