I was just telling someone yesterday that people who don't live on Scott Blvd often do not realize how bad of a problem speeding really is.

There are several traffic calming devices that can be used. I had suggested planting trees in the middle (like Oakville does in many places) because they create a perception of a narrower street. Ultimately enforcement needs to go up as well. Considering that park is close to a school zone, it's even worse.

In King County near Seattle they put roundabouts and narrowness as well. Scott is so wide because it has parking on either sides (lane markers will go up later this year). In Seattle on these type of streets they would put a divided after a few parking spots with trees on them. This also created a perception of narrowness without actually narrowing down the street much. Also, after a while they'd have roundabouts to eliminate a straight stretch that drivers can fly through.

I like these traffic calming devices better than speed bumps. Speed bumps penalize everyone. Roundabout and creating a perception of narrowness actually causes no harm to regular drivers (if anything then they beautify the street).

Shameless plug: You should vote for a councillor who lives on Scott Blvd (well, 2 houses away from Scott) so he continues to raise this issue with the staff (except right now he raises them as a citizen). I walk on Scott with my kids in summer (to walk to the village square), I see Scott from my bedroom window & backyard (yes, I am one of those "lets have dinner on the deck tonight". You can see me having evening tea and dinners on the deck in summer as you drive North on Scott past the PL Robertson school) and my wife and I drive on Scott every day (separately).

(Actually I can see both Scott Blvd and Savoline Blvd from my window and backyard)

Please don't put in any roundabouts! People here won't know how to use roundabouts correctly (see Kitchener-Waterloo for failed examples)! You should see how some people drive "around" those roundabounds.

I like the idea of putting in trees/medians and narrow the streets down so people cannot pass on Scott (even though Scott has a solid line in the middle). Too many people ignore traffic rules and speed limit on Scott.

I think Savoline is as bad if not worse then Scott. I have seen construction vans going by doing at least 100K/H. It is only a matter of time before somebody gets killed, and I haven't seen a police car there yet in 2 years. I hate to say it, but I don't think that the slowing measures above would do any good... These guys speeding at 80 to 100K have no regard for safety or perception. Wait until one of them clips a kid.... That will change things.

i hate to say it but 4-way stops every few streets might solve the problem.
you can go end to end on scott blvd only stopping once if you catch the light at derry at the right time.
a 4-way stop at finney terrace would provide a crosswalk for the kids at pl robertson

The only solution is speed control. Since police cannot be present 100% of the time and since it has been proven over time that idiots continue to drive like they own the road on Scott, speed bumps need to be slapped down asap before someone gets hurt.

To their credit, I've seen more police presence along Scott between Derry and Main since Escarpmentview opened...but it's still not enough. I even see one car pulling over 2 people at the same time....and there are STILL cars flying past.

I'm curious....as I had an incident this morning the same as the OP suggested....it was a black nissan sedan (older) and when I reported it to the police...she was quite perplexed as she said the plate# I gave came up "returned to MTO". She wanted me to keep an eye out and triple check the plates on this idiot....as I know I got it right....and she wants to get him now :)

I'm glad to say there has been more police around lately and I for one am very grateful. In fact just yesterday I was taking my dog for a walk, and we came across a police car parked at the PL Robertson School. I couldn't help myself and I felt compelled to go over and talk to him. I told him I appreciated him being there because there are just too many people driving way to fast, and ignoring stop signs.

He agreed, thanked me for coming up to talk, and just then my crazy dog jumped up at his window to say hello to him. I gotta be honest I was a little freaked out by that, I thought he would get pissed, but instead started to pet my dog. Now here's where it get's interesting; the police officer said that in many cases, in new areas like ours people tend to still think they can get away with it because of all the construction they still think it's un assumed road and take those signs "drive at own risk" a little to literal. I thought that was interesting as I had never thought of that point of view.

I asked him if they have been handing out a lot of tickets, and he said unfortunately too many, and people haven't got the message yet... which is sad.

Now here's the best part... my dog and I said goodbye to the police officer, and went back to our walk... and no word of a lie, we were crossing the street on Scott and Dymott, and we could hear a car coming down Scott just tearing it up... and before we got to the other side, the cop pulled up behind him, and sure enough was about to hand out another ticket.

I really don't think these idiots get it... I've said this before and got blasted for it, but I really don't care. I really believe there are just too many people with a false sense of entitlement around here. There are a lot of people who think they spent all this money and they are entitled to drive the way they want, do what they want, expect what they think they deserve... it is a joke. The second you take your car on the road, you lost your so called entitlement, because the road is "ours" not "just yours" and I for one have no problem reporting you if I see you taking advantge of "our roads", and putting somebody else's life at unnecessary risk, just because you think you can.

I'm not crazy about roundabouts, or speed bumps, I'd prefer islands in the middle lined with trees as I believe that would visually would look nicer. But with that said, I'm in favour of anything that will stop these morans.

Maybe it's time to start a thread that people can leave make, model, colour, plate if they have it, description of driver, location and what they were doing. Nothing else, just a simple posting. Don't use it to discuss the issues, just leave the posting, and it's something we can refer to the police, that citizens are watching whats going on. Maybe it will also catch some press and start a bit of a snowball effect for raising awareness with the community.

My crazy thought of the day :D

Did anyone else see a silver Chrysler Concorde flying down Savoline at around 4:30 saturday night? This guy must have been going at least 100km/hr or more. My wife and I were going for a walk with our daughter along Savoline, when this idiot came roaring down the road. Someone has to get killed before anyone will do anything.

Ya, and that wasn't his first time. 100K+ is a regular routine for this jerk. Here I am trying to teach my 3 year old to watch for cars before crossing to head to the park, and this guy comes by kicking up so much dirt that I can't even get his plate #. Next time I am going to bean his car with a rock and hope he stops. Then we can call the cops together....

Something has to be done before somebody gets killed. I know Scott gets the police attention because of the schools and it is turning into a main throughway, but Savoline is just as dangerous. My wife doesn't take the kids to the park without me becasue crossing the street with a 10 month old in a stroller and a 3 year old in tow, the cars are coming up on her to quick to be comfortable.

This isn't the reason we moved to Milton.

after 3 days of living in Milton, i've noticed issues with driver's on Clark Blvd as well. i moved out of toronto for a reason!

it's a matter of making people realize that they are not as invincible as they may think... or not think.

Unfortunately before I moved to the HW area, I lived right beside Waldie/James Snow...and I have to say the situation on Scott is much MUCH worse. There WILL be a fatality on Scott...SOON. Now that the nicer weather is out....people are walking, people are going to Holloway Park (Huntingford/Scott)...Escarpmentview parents lost their bussing (something I feel VERY passionately that the HDSB should have kept until the construction directly on Scott has cleared, it is SAFE and you have actual sidewalks to walk on)..so there are people walking with small children and strollers up and down Scott to school every morning/afternoon.

It's a bad game of frogger...and you don't get any "free turns".

I don't want a bunch of stop signs either...I agree they don't always work..and I may be wrong...but I think speed bumps are illegal (in Milton Halton or whatnot) but the answer has to be even MORE police presence..and a few stop signs in key areas.

I also hate to say it...and begin to shoot me down...but Scott simply CANNOT be used as a main thoroughfare or "shortcut" for everyone to get to the 401. It wasn't designed for that. Bronte was. It's an industrial street..not a residential street.

Rant over :)

Stop signs aren't a solution when I already see people flying thru them and not stopping.

Speed bumps are clearly annoying, and can damage your shocks in your car day after day going over them.

I support roundabouts, in fact I love them! Wish they were used more here in Canada.

Narrowing roads I support, makes sense and putting trees in the middle of the road (not only does it make people perceive things different, it looks nice!).

Those are my 2 cents.

Agreed but can you blame people for doing so? The town/region (who ever is at fault) did some poor planning and there are very few ways out of this town and onto the highway. Scott would probably be a ghost road if we had the Tremaine interchange.

Mind you, that doesn't excuse the speeding by a-hole drivers (which there are MANY of in this town).

completely agreed. Perhaps that is where we are at odds politically at a solution for this..as weighing the costs involved in supporting the excessive traffic from the "a-holes" :) for a temporary time til they can fly through the Tremaine interchange instead.

I've said this before...it's not the parents or even "locals" I normally see speeding down Scott...it's the trades....(obvious trade pick up/work vans, marked Mattamy, Arista and Fieldgate trucks) and the "commuters" who are the majority of the speeders. Obviously there's always the exception to the idiot rule :) but that is the majority that I've seen.

And I guess I disagree about the stop signs...most people don't completely shoot through them. They may not stop completely, but at least they serve as "speed bumps" at the very least. Commuters are taking Scott BECAUSE it's a thoroughfare street with absolutely NO stop signs or otherwise all the way from Derry to Main....it's like a drag strip.

They are a massive PITA, especially for someone who would be dealing with them a lot more than the average idiot who is spoiling it for the rest of us...but we see that everywhere.

Remember when Derry was 80? Now it's 60 because idiots have spoiled it. Remember when Tremaine was a beautiful scenic road (also an 80) now it's a 60 because of construction and idiots as well. (God I love that word! hahaha) It's too bad we can't keep some of the many reasons we moved to Milton in the first place. It's not all about growth either...I think it's to a large extent about not abusing the privileges you have somewhat. Wouldn't Derry be a nicer commute for those in the other end if Derry was still 80...WITH the new 4/5 lanes?? :)

I don't have many solutions either...I'm afraid. I'm just terrified at what is going to happen...it's going to be a young child.

Not to change the topic..and I saw on one of Colin's posts that the construction was scheduled to start for the sidewalks on Main from Scott to Bronte...(YAYYYYYY!!!) but couple the nice summer weather with more people outside...and all the new commuters/population moved into that area over the last year...and you've got another death wish there. Jumping into a ditch with small kids and a stroller isn't fun...trust me...done it a few times :) And speed there is also a factor..though not quite noticed as much.

I like roundabouts somewhat as a driver, but I personally think they are dangerous, as again, we have a lot of "idiot" drivers who don't understand them. I think they would also be confusing for kids/pedestrians trying to cross all of them on the way to school and the parks. There are pros and cons for all of the solutions I suppose.

I wish there was a magical solution. :)

Jessica :)

I was traveling southbound on Scott from Main st. I was approaching the new school being built and the new 40 km/h zone ( I was doing approx. 45km/h) when a black Grand Prix flew up on my ass (I saw him coming), and proceeded to fly past me around the bend there, had to be doing at least 80-90km/h at that point.

Ended up getting stuck at a school bus stop a few hundred metres up, and then proceeded to ride the asses of all the vehicles until he hit Derry where he made a left, total douche!!! Sadly I did not get a plate number.
