My USB flash drive is corrupted, I need to recover the files, I know they are still there, but Windows wants to format the drive whenever I try to access it.

Does anyone know of a free file recovery program that I can use? Anything I have found so far will show the files, but I have to pay to actually recover them.

I'd probably start with one of the linux bootdisks variants.

I use Restorer2000 ultimate.

You can see the files and recover them but there is a size limitation. Once you pay you get to recover any.

Are you in a rush?

If you drop the USB stick off tonight I can have your data for you tomorrow night.

One of the senior execs at my company some how started the Toshiba restore process. It reformated the HD and restored their factory image. he turned it on and it was like it was brand new out of the box. i pulled that HD, used the above mentioned software and recovered 16GB of family photos. I can't recommend that software enough. I think it starts at 29 for the basic. We paid $69 US and we can image our computers over the network.

Thanks! I did end up using Sandisk Rescue Pro... I have a ton of Sandisk cards that I use for photography, but I never thought to keep the packaging, therefor I lost my serial number.
I called Sandisk and gave them the serial number of one of my memory cards and they gave me a courtesy activation code. The software worked great and I appear to have recovered 100% of my photos.

Thanks!

The sandisc one works very well (comes for free with most sandisk SD cards).
