My Grandfather past away yesterday, and today we need to make the funeral arrangements.

Can any one recommend a good Funeral Home? I know there are only a couple in town, but what have you experiences been with them.

Your insight is greatly appreciated.

I am sorry for your loss, Donny. If you need anything, you know where we are.

*hugs*

I second (third) the recommendation for McKersie Kocher. The Kochers are truly a lovely family and they made dealing with our own loss last year a little bit easier. Mainly the son and his wife (andrew & caroline) managed our arrangements and a more kind and caring young couple you could never find.

I know you've already decided by now, but I mainly just wanted to say I'm sorry for your loss and may your grandfather rest in peace.

J. Scott Early has actually been voted best funeral home in Milton the past number of years, not McKersie Kocher. I have unfortunately had to use funeral home services twice in the past 5 years and went with J. Scott Early both times. They (for me anyway) where much more receptive and warmer when first approached.

The are family run by a Husband and Wife who have 30+ years in the industry and did everything to make our time(s) of mourning as easy for us as possible and ensured all our needs and requests were met and exceeded.

I would highly recommend them to anyone in need at this time in their life.

I have heard that McKersie can be hit or miss, depending on who you are dealing with. I dont really want to go into other details, but I have also heard negative experiences from others who have been there.

In the end you need to visit and see who you are comfortable with.

My condolences to you and your family during this time.

Laurie,

Interesting that you research this for your first post here and that for a "regular reader" of this forum you have only just signed up and are only now responding to something i had written 5 months ago.

For the record everything I stated was true in my post. I did say that it depended on who you dealt with at McKersie. I have heard both positive and negatives. Yes I have used J. Scott for two funerals and yes they were excellent and yes I know the Hunter's personally who run J. Scott. I prob. speak to them ohhh about 8 - 12 times a year... and have seen Mr. Hunter perhaps 2 - 3 times in the past 12 months at a black tie dinner.

I stand by my post which clearly says to visit both and see where you feel most comfortable and go there. I also corrected a previous poster that stated that McKersie had been voted best funeral home in Milton when it had indeed not.

Slander? No, sorry not quite the case. Expressed my opinion based on what I have been told by others along with my personal experience, yes.

I have met the Kocher's on a number of occasions and find them to be very nice people. Also I fail to see how I attempted to destroy their business and I am also curious as to what "personal gain" I am getting from this.

Laurie, I thank you for using my full name at the beginning of the post, is this so you can show everyone your great detective skills? Seeing as you threw my name out there perhaps you would like to post your full name so I can see who is attempting to slander me? Is Laurie even your real name? You also brought Christianity into this, so I assume you also know which Church I belong to in Milton and prob. got your info on me from there.

I am glad you have lived in Milton all of your life, that is wonderful and you are lucky to have done so, I wish I could say the same. My wife's family however did found the town (The Martin family). Not much point to me say that however thought I would throw it in there as you had thrown in the fact that you have lived here all your life!

Laurie (if that is your name) I thank you for your posting and welcome further feedback. I apologize for having apparently angered you on this topic. The original poster had asked people for feedback on the funeral homes in town, not just "oh tell me how nice they are". The beauty of these forums is that you can come here for an honest opinion from people who have knowledge / have used services etc. that you are looking for (which you know of course as you state you are a regular reader of this "blog or whatever we call it").

On a separate note, I am sorry you have had to use the services of any funeral home over the past years as the passing of a loved one is never pleasant even when expected. I wish you peace and may God's love fill you with happiness.

Yours truly,

Daniel Johnson
"Deej"

I see absolutely no slander in deej's post. It seemed a good assessment based on his experiences. Whether he is biased or not, funeral homes are a BUSINESS, so I see absolutely nothing wrong here. Anyone should appreciate ANY insight when making choice. Perhaps Laurie could've shared her positive or negative experiences with us instead of making accusations. Especially since the business we're discussing is a sensitive one. And at a time when someone has lost a loved one, Laurie's post is out of line.

Laurie, please a new post and have a discussion there if you like.

Gypsy, I appreciate your comments and like I said earlier, it was based on some experiences and feedback received. In hindsite could I have worded my original post better? Perhaps however I still stand by my comments and believe if in need of these type of services you must go wherever you feel most comfortable and at ease.

I have no personal bias against McKersie Kocher but was simply responding to the OP's question with the information I had at the time.
May I also say I am sorry for your loss especially during your pregnancy.

As for "Laurie's" Nancy Drew like investigating, I could (I believe) at this stage tell you her real name and other details but don't feel it is appropriate to post them here. However there are some details that she did not mention about herself that I think are rather interesting considering some of the things she chose to call me out on. Perhaps I'll just wait and see if she responds to my statements.

Daniel
