Can anyone recommend a 108 inch HD projector for a basement home theatre system? It is for a friend. I know there are lots of tech savy people here.

What's his budget?

The best bang for your buck is still the Optoma HD70 in my opinion, even though that unit is almost 5 yrs old.
Native is 720p, but it also handles 1080i and 1080p GREAT for the money spent, under a thousand bucks.

Of course, you can spend a LOT more, $2500, $3000, $5000.. it all depends what he's looking for.

If he wants to see it in action, let me know, I could arrange :)

Personally I have seen the Panasonic cinema projector.. the image is amazing..

and a little advise, 2000 lumens is WAY to bright for a basement... don't worry about the brightness of a projector, concentrate on contrast and colour management technology

That's a GREAT choice in the $2500-3000 range for sure.

I definitely agree on your comments about the specs as well.
