Hi Maniza and Amir,

we were confused by all of the different items as well. Some of them are explained on the back of the bill under glossary of terms. Hope that helps....

Yes all new houses built have a smart meter, they are not all turned on. They only install so many at a time.

Check out my post on the same subject...

Anyone have a picture of a smart meter?

How can we differentiate between a Smart meter and a regular old meter.

LOL. It looks the same, it just has digital readouts, but somewhere it has to have a phone outlet.

I'll try to find a pic of it. If needs be I'll take another one

Thanks, ours still has the old dial meters in them, so that confirms that we don't have a Smart meter installed.

I guess being in Phase2, I shouldn't have expected it anyways.

Post subject:  Your Bill

I think if you flip your bill over it explains all the charges or most of them.

Distribution Charge - Charge to recover the cost of delivery ie building the lines and putting up poles.

SSS Administrative Charge - (Standard Service Supply) regulatory charge

Customer Charge - fixed monthly cost to recover the cost of billing and metering

Debt Retirement Charge - thank old Ontario Hydro for this one

Transmission Charge - charge to recover losses to transportation on electricity

Wholesale Market Services - charge based on usage to recover costs charged by the IESO to operate the provincial system.

Commencing April 1-Block 1 - usage charge for block one. The cost of electricty.

Account Set-up Charge - self explanitory

Milton hydro also bills for the region for your water usage.

The new rate card can be found here

Milton Hydro does not sell electricity, they are a distributor. Think of them as truck drivers. They make there money by charging the customer to use the system. All the costs and charges associated to the electricty are just passed through Milton Hydro to the IESO and generators. Also all rates are regulated and set by the OEB (Ontario Energy Board).
