We close in less than 3 weeks. Our new house has the drain pipe in the kitchen installed in a terrible spot. They put the drain pipe two inches behind the front door of the kitchen cabinet - which renders the cabinet useless (i.e. garbage can under the sink or storing anything else). My question to all is - can Mattamy get away with this installation? Has this happened to anyone else? It basically has been angled towards the cabinet doors from the sink and then goes straight down just 2 inches shy of where the doors open. |

Ours is the same, but we bought it resale. We can't store anything under our kitchen sink other than small, loose stuff like sponges etc. |

I think it is ridiculous that Mattamy can install the plumbing that way under the sink. Why wouldn't they better plan where the plumbing has to run under the floor in the floor joist? If any inspector out there reads this - is this acceptable? |

I will be attaching a photo today once I take one. It's basically the drain pipe that is right behind the cabinet doors. Usually the drain pipe is located at the back of the cabinet - am I not correct? |

sorry...forgot to mention the trap is located in the right spot under the sink but then the drain pipe is angled toward the front cabinet doors |

Exactly where it should go. I don't believe it should go to the front of the cabinet |

CEK, I would put it on your PDI for sure. I do think that if they can fix it (i.e., if there wasn't a specific reason like a steel beam being in the way of where the drain should otherwise have come up) then they would fix it for you. As long as there's not an obstruction from below, I don't think it's a very hard thing for them to fix ...provided you could live with a patch in the cabinet. If you were to insist on a total replacement of the cabinetry they may balk at that, so you might want to just pick your battles and get them to move the plumbing and settle for a patched cabinet floor. Up to you re. how far you'd push, but I'd definitely get them to move the plumbing myself. |

Thanks MiltonLeo. We are planning on putting it on the PDI - but we were wondering if anyone else had encountered the same thing. |

Thank you Emsmom My husband actually showed our builder a few weeks ago but he made excuses why it was like that so we were worried that they wouldn't fix it...but we will push to have it done. I think they messed up since it was going on a island sink..so they misjudged it before the kitchen was to be installed... |
